What the hey are you talking about??? I have been working on/with computers since the late 70's so I would like to see one of these "new fangled" ones! And yes these "new fangled" things are really bad for the auto biz. before computers you changed plugs every 10,000 miles and a motor was good for maybe 50,000 miles, with them plugs at 100,000 miles and motors last well over 100,000 no more chokes no more rebuilt carbs and if the big oil was not around mileage would be just as impressive, yep them dad burned puters are going to be the death of the auto industry (not)

Hey Fred... .....

I bet FATCAT still uses AM-only radio, vinyl records, and a reel-to-reel tape player ! #ad

I have driven a friend's 68rfe. The increased power, much better shifting and exhaust brake make it worth $4K over an 06 if the reflash fixes the regen problem.

Now that is something I can agree with. The power increase isn't that great but I can feel the difference between the 305/555 and the 325/610 engines, so I am sure the 6. 7 is another nice boost. I never had much trouble with the 48re, I sure liked it better than the two Allison trucks I owned but, the new six speed with fingertip gear controls and an integrated exhaust brake I paid extra for on '06s is definately a good incentive.

It comes right back to getting the regen problem solved. I am glad you guys are optomistic that it will be a simple reflash. How many reflashes did Ford have on the 6. 0? I thought it was 80 some over three years. No the 6. 7 isn't anywhere near that, or is it that it isn't to that point YET? I don't think anybody can say for sure, because it remains unfixed and is a known issue.

I have been working with "computer experts" for over a week just trying to get my Verizon AirCard to work properly! The last one told me I had the wrong software version until she went to walk me through their download page! If after this many years they can't get a modem to work, I am not too sure about them fixing anything complex.

I wish someone would call me and offer me a trade for 4k to off my 00 for an 07! :-laf

To me, sounds like a good deal, and to those of you that are still stuck in 1970, computers are not all that bad! Hello, without them, you wouldnt be reading this... :-laf Face it, your just scared of those darn things, because you dont understand them.

New fangled com-pu-ter mobiles. Worst thing in the world for cars/trucks was these computer devices ... cars/trucks are the worst environment for these things also. Plus it seems you gotta be a millionaire to own one of the new trucks also. I've been waiting for the 4500/5500 and I'll be damned if I were to spend a fourtune on a truck if some com-pu-ter device shuts down the truck every 100 miles or so. #@$%!

These things don't run on Windows, dude. The coding is simple, relatively speaking, and there aren't the myriad of human inputs going into them. We've been using computers on far more important stuff since the 40s. Heck, the computers originally designed for the Space Shuttles back in the late 60s are so large, relative to the current systems in your home, that a replacement system would take less capability than the laptop I'm using, and take up probably less than 1% of the space and weight.

I have set up several aircards for clients and have yet to have 1(one) uno work out of the box! It's usually not associated with the correct mobile number. That is a carbon problem not a silicone error. Today's vehicles have 100 times the computing power the early shuttles had.

I have a little over 2000 miles on my truck all but 300 or 400, in town very short (6 miles) trips, with no regen message or any issues but every tank of fuel has been ULSD. :) We are planning a trip to the east coast next month and my wife will have everything including the kitchen sink in the 5vr as we plan on being out for about 4 weeks. I sure feel much better about this truck than the 04. 5 5. 9Oo. And FATCAT there is nothing wrong with being a troglodyte if you don't mind people calling you "old fart";)

Since I finally got the computer to recognize the card I have run setup several times. The correct number is there. It has stayed connected this morning for over three hours as long as I am streaming a radio station. I don't think it is the card, but I should get a new one tomorrow to try.

Speaking of the shuttle, I read somewhere that they were having trouble finding the old chips they used. I think they were 86 or 186 chips. I should have saved my first 'puter I guess. It was a Tandy 2000 186. Better yet I should have taken the $3K it and the printer cost and bought Microsoft stock!

For 4k you can have a pretty tough transmission built for your existing truck.

That's a pretty good point... . i'm spending about $4500 for DTT on my 06... i did consider trading for a 7. 5 just for the heck of it... . but in the end, i knew i'd do some light modding to my truck (trans, fuel pump, smarty) and didnt want to have to deal with the DPF / Emissions stuff or 1st year issues... . in my case, i dont use the truck for much other than my 8 mile commute and hauling dirtbikes... . so i dont think i could have gone wrong either way..... although the 8mi commute prbably wouldnt have been good for the dpf... .

So Built 48re vs stock 68rfe? Obviously the 2 extra gears is better... I would assume the built 48re transfers power better, but other than that... . which is the better route all things being equal?

You are making it tough! I love the way the 68rfe shifts and it has more power new than my 06 at 30K. If it "limbers up" it will be something. The EPA stuff is a big ? though. My friend is supposed to get his reflash this week.
If it doesn't work, a lightly bombed 06 with a DTT 48re would certainly look the best. I am not happy with the shifting of my stock 06 for sure.
My friend says that other than the extra gears and exhaust brake, the thing that impressed him most was backing his 14K fiver up a hill. He said the reverse gear is great compared to the stock 48re.
Let us know how you come out!

After some serious thought (I have a headache, which the wife says cann't be that bad since I don't have much in the first place:-{}) I've decided to keep my 5. 9:).

When they call back I'll just tell them that deal was a couple of weeks ago, I'll cut you a check right now at $2,000 to boot. :-laf:rolleyes:
