Pit Bull,

What you have just stated is one reason that I would never buy a truck from a private individual. Try getting your money back or getting something fixed. Tough enough from a dealer and you can get DMV after them.

Dean, I agree and was concerned about the potential liability of one of our TDR brothers that sold to an individual, his bombed truck. The reason I mentioned it is that you normally don't find this problem with most cars and trucks people buy and sell. I know if I bought a CTD that I thought had a 5 year 100K mile engine warranty from a person and the VP-44 died 10K miles later at 70K miles. If the dealer then told me my warranty was not any good because the previous owner had a box on it at one time. Based on how expensive the VP-44's are I would take the previous owner to court. Unless I had signed something that said the previous owner was not responsible for any warranty issues.

Pit Bull,

IF I ever sold a vehicle privately, there would be "as is" all over everything. I do not like the hassle of private deals, coming or going. Just my own thoughts.

You cannot believe the messes on autos this creates. All the dealers i've worked in have been burned mightly in these situations. Cars that have had convertiors removed, gas tank necks modified. Service engine soon lights unhooked and major emmision items butched etc. Used car sales for a long time never checked autos(trucks)out just drove them and then would not have them inspected after trade in etc. Resale the auto and folks come back with problems and emmisons warranty void etc. The dealer would eat any and all repairs. Even autos from the big sales. They finally got smart and started getting us in service to check them before accepting for trade and running them through service before resale. Sometimes they still get burnt. Over the years i've seen some real butched cars traded in. Air bag lights removed and the list goes on. Even had a tech not long ago trade in a late model DakotaV8 with headers, cam, mopar high rise. A EFI Dakota. At times it would stall for no reason, manual trans roared. The new owner showed up and said its all covered isn'nt it?He had a breakdown policy we had sold him. YEA RIGHT. The mech. adjuster that showed up to look at it said YEA RIGHT!Had to refund his money on policy and some one coughed up $2000 to fix the beast. It still stalled intermintaly at idle. We in service finally washed our hands of that truck. Told service manager what ever it took to please get that monkey off our back(service)Never really knew the total outcome of that deal.

I found a dealer about 150 mi. from me through the Truck Trader magazine. It was a Dodge dealer that always had a half dozen or more late model CTDs advertised. He made an offer to by my'01 outright that was better than any trade offered by other dealers

I'm like some others--still trying to decide if I want to take it in the shorts or not. I looked at an '03 2500 Black Quad Cab Sport SLT HO & 6 speed with SWB last Friday that had an MSRP of $39,730. It had Infinity am/fm/cassette/cd, anti-spin, Trailer tow group, Rear sliding window, Power trailer tow mirrors, Keyless entry, and front hood protection. They offered me $24,530 for my truck (see signature, has 39K one owner miles) but I still felt with the profit margins on the truck they could have went $25,250. I paid $32,624 plus tax on my 2000 ($500 over invoice, it had an MSRP of $36,465) I may wait a little longer and try to sell privately; my wife thinks I'm insane for trading anyway, although she did like the prospective truck (maybe it was because I was going to roll over the equity out of my truck and eliminate a payment and pay off her 2002 Jeep Liberty ?) If you have good credit, it's a real buyer's market. Decisions, decisions... ... ...

What were they asking, difference? $8000? $9000? $10000? That's the important number ;) Seems like $8000 difference would be a fair deal but your truck is brand new at 39K miles. You just want a new truck and that HO 6 speed. Can't blame you. Truth me the wives never understand :( Good luck.
