If your not looking for insane HP then it won't cost you $5k. Call Dave Goerend

563-778-2719. He can fix you up for alot less than $5k on a transmission.

I'm in the same boat as you I have an 07 5. 9 auto, and the I think the transmissions is junk. It hunts for gears all the time. My dad's got an 04 6spd and I love driving it. When I ordered the truck I order a 6spd dually then I thought about it and decided I didn't want the duals, and it was taking three months to get it. So I was passed the cut off date on the 5. 9 , and didn't want a 6. 7 So long story short I settle for a 3500 single rear with the auto and kick my self every day. But the problem is finding a 6spd with all the options like the Laramie, sunroof, and in flame red, I wont have any other color and I've done so much to the truck I would lose to much money. But if I could swap trucks and not lose so much I would in a heartbeat.

I have owned 4 third gens with the 48re. My current one is a g56 and by far the most fun to drive. I don't know about you guys, and maybe I should grow up a little, but I love the sound of the truck going through the gears in tow. I enjoy shifting and the control. Even with the bad OD ratio these trucks are way more fun to drive with the g56. I don't think the NV5600 box is as pleasent to use. Six speed, straight pipe, a couple power enhancements and it is a hot rod.

I agree with you, with the exception of the G56/NV5600 issue. I feel that my NV5600 is fun to drive, except in rush hour city traffic with a cell phone in one hand.

I always tell people it takes both hands and both feet to drive my truck:-laf They have to wait until I am out on the road or stopped for the cell call.

I have just found the g56 to be much easier to use, the NV box is heavy and stiff by comparison. Not a bad transmission by any means just higher effort.

The early G56 had different ratio's than the new G56 so there is a bit of miss information posted here on the subject.

I believe I did mention the '07 model year has a 0. 74 OD ratio. For me personally, the rpms you're experiencing are more desirable than those illustrated for the G56 with the 0. 79 OD ratio. WHEN I do get to buy one, I'll be going for the G56.
