All you 3rd genners, listen up!

I have an '02 3/4 ton and am looking at moving on up to an '03 1 ton with the 6 speed manual, 3. 73 rear, 4x4 Laramie truck. Mileage is right at 75,150.

I am planning on heading down to the lot next week and doing a good once over on the truck. Is there anything inherent to the 3rd gen trucks that I need to be on the look out for??

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Well from what I've been reading it might be a good idea to pull the engine apart and see what kind of condition the injectors are in.

I wonder what a salemans face would look like if you did that right in front of him... just started strippin the motor down and tossin parts over your shoulder. :--)

"sorry sir, injector 6 looks like ***... not what I'm lookin for" and just walked off steppin over engine parts on yer way out. :-laf

If you can, try to look up the repair history, on that truck.

Regarding the injectors, some have had carbon build-up on the tips from not running them hard. On mine, I was able to fix that problem with the addition of fuel additives.

The added lubricity of the additive should be good for the HPCR, also.

Get it up to highway speeds and check for any wobble, shaking or steering pull. The U-joints and ball joints can be problem areas on the 3rd gen trucks, and with 75k miles these issues have either been fixed already, or will probably need attention soon.

Also, the '03 stock lift pumps are still weaklings just like on the 24V 2nd gen trucks.

When you finally get close to sealing the deal, scratch yer chin and say, "Oh, one more thing- throw in a pair of rear wheel liners... . "
