What is the secret to unplugging the large white connector so I can replace my Tekonsha brake controller?

I have had no luck trying to get the plug apart. It's in a tight spot and that doesn't help matters.

Dont't know if they are the same but on mine there is a small clip on the side of the male end that laps over the edge of the female end , it has to be pried up to release. I can't get both hands up in there to release it. Looks like you would need a tool something like a small flat blade screwdriver bent into a "U" shap on the end to release the clip. bg

There is a little red safety clip that is perpendicular to the plug that has to be backed out a before you pull back and lift the one that holds them together. Most of the time the red clip is pulled out and left out.

Large pet coon. It's about all they're good for; getting into tight places, that is. But you have to watch 'em, or they'll chew the end off the wire when you're not looking, unplug several other connectors, and then take a cr*p in your seat... ... ... I suggest kicking them a few times and knocking their teeth out before you let them loose in your truck..... only other thing I can think that they're good for is if you ever have anyone you don't like, feed one of the little boogers a lot of fruit and candied nuts, and then throw them in the person's truck and lock the doors... ... maybe spill some orange juice in the seats.....
