Ran into or over something and need to replace the trailer brake wiring. Its a 46' G-Neck with 3 axles. I took out what was there and it appears to be 12-14 ga wire maybe even 14-16. Its not much different than the lighting wires. Googling it leads me to 10 ga wire. Also everyone I have asked around here says the smaller, larger numbered wire will work. I have had some issues with the brakes in the past. I probably just answered my own question, but what ya'll say?

Go with the heavier wire for your brakes at the least. But 12-14 should be ok for lighting. The 10ga only to the main brake wire and 12VDC negative, then 12ga distributed to each magnet. It's ok to go heavier then needed but not the other way.

Wiring them in a star configuration with all leg of equal length will lead to better braking. #10 from the hitch to the star and #12 to each wheel will create better braking. Solder and seal all connections.

x2 regarding the star configuration- that way, if one wire becomes broken, the others should still work...
Ask me how I know :)

Star? Are you saying have all the wires to the wheels equal lenght from the 10 ga?

Run the #10 to the center area of the middle axle and then run wires to each wheel from there. The wires inside the axles are way to small. Form a little curly flex coil down from the underside near each wheel. I have 2x2x1/8 square tubes between spring hangers so it was each to route wires on them. Snoking
