5th wheel, g-neck advice (a bit long)

#@$%! I ruturned from a off-roading trip sunday around 5pm. Parked my trailer by work and went home. Came back to work this morning and noticed my side door had no lock :{ My 2 tool boxes were untouched, everything else was turned upside down. Luckily they didnt damage anything when cutting the lock. This is the second time it has happened. Those darn master locks that are supposed to be un-pickable/un-cuttable/un-bustable $uck *****. They must have been looking for something in particular, because nothing was taken. I had 2 6" chrome turnout stacks, 2 6" straight cut stacks, 7" mieter cut stacks, and a ton of autometer, isspro, and dipricol gauges. Looks like i'm gonna have to push the bosses to install security cameras :-laf (like that will ever happen) Any ideas on good locks??? My trailer is a 24' cargomate.

Nothing was taken? Maybe the boss is just trying to give you the hint that you need to find alternative parking LOL

There are plenty of quality locks that cannot be cut off... . Master does not make them. Go to a locksmith and pick up one of his security models. Lowes/ Home Depot may carry a good one, but the locksmith has the really good stuff. You may have to udgrade the latch, but a lock can be had for around $50. 00 that would keep a hacksaw or sawzall at bay. If by cut you mean a torch... that problem never goes away. They will simply cut a hole in the trailer if the lock is too big of a pain. Thieves like quick and easy so invest in a good lock and latch.

Was the lock one of those "disc" locks?

The heck with the lock, install an extension cord! When you get to work, plug it in and light up someones life!

I have a family member who does some security contract work for the govt..... they put their locks in places where you can't get a set of bolt cutters, cutting torch etc... into..... most of the locks they have tested will crunch in 15 seconds to a set of bolt cutters with handles that are 3 ft long..... I've seen some locks with 7/16" shackes on them... and the big bolt cutters go right through them... .

I suggest you might look into putting a good lock into a box that can't be cut apart in less than 20 or 30 minutes..... to protect your stuff... ...

We have a fenced yard 6' and keep all our trucks and trailers in that yard(work trucks, at the shop)... one neighbor has no fence, and the other has a 4 ft fence... . the guy with no fence has lots of problems... we have had none up to now... . at least in the past 12 years... .

I had one of those round shaped locks before. I think I got it at walmart. The case of the lock covers all but about an inch that goes through the door. It took me half an hour with the dremel to cut it off when I lost my keys. I couldn't get a bolt cutter to do any significant damage to it.

I bought some of the round locks from a industrial supply store around here. The demo they had on the show room floor said "They break it, we buy it. " Figured i'd give it a shot. After all, its a trailer and if they really want to get the stuff inside, they probably would steal the whole thing.
