Trailer length limits in State Parks??

While looking at new 5th wheels to replace our TT a fella mentioned to consider the length limits in State Parks.

While I am sure this would differ between States and particular parks I wanted to ask. .



Is there a particular length more widely accepted in not just State Parks but also the private camp grounds as well?

I've heard 25' , but hearing is bs very often , I am linking to see replies .

I know they used to have a 32' limit on RV's/Motor Homes years ago in many State Parks. That may have had more to do with turning radius stuff, used to be the roads were pretty narrow with some tight turns. Most State Parks now have been upgraded to better road systems. Maybe you can find some information about this by searching a few State Parks web sites? Maybe the Forrestry Service site will discuss this as well.

Many sites in state parks and Nat. Forests,etc are too small to park large trailers. We have a25 foot Artic Fox which lets us camp in state parks,Nat. parks and forests. The larger the trailer the more you are limited as to where you can camp .

Thats the thing that has come into mind with an upgrade. What we have is 25' that has never been a problem. The new one we like is 32' and would dampen primitive camping I am sure.



We don't like "condo-camping" where the sites are cramped with lots of concrete. It may be time to investigate a membership kind of deal.

The max. length varies depending on both the state and the park. The links below will take you to all of the state parks in the U. S. From there you can research max length at individual parks. For instance, in CA, the max length varies from 18' to 45' depending on the park, CT allows up to 35' at most of their parks. I've also pasted a list of all the National Parks, and the max length can also be researched there. Alternatively, if you set your rig up for boondocking, the destinations are virtually unlimited. You can boondock in National Parks any where you can find some room - if there are not signs in that particular area prohibiting camping, and for some parks, it can not be within a certain (short) distance from established pay campsites. New Mexico's Forest Service campgrounds have a posted limit of 24', but it's never enforced. State Parks vary.

The state parks that we spend a lot of time in, are in OR, WA and both of them have reservation services that ask the length of your trailer and if you have any slides when you park... . These parks have mapped out their spaces and will only put you into a spot that you'll fit into.....

We have a 24 footer - 5th wheel, and have never been turned away due to length, even when MANY longer rigs ahead of us were being turned away. Older parks typically seem length and slider limited, which might be a serious issue for folks like us who typically camp in those type CG's. Often, even newer parks have only a relatively small percentage of longer/wider spaces compared to the smaller ones - and naturally, the larger spaces are the first to get filled.



It must be very frustrating for folks who went out and bought some grand long RV with multi-slides - and then find the doors closed to them in the places they most often would prefer to stay...

Thanks for the great links,I am a boonddocker too. Never cared much for camping where the neighbors are closer than at home.
