Having trouble with my trailer lights. The problem seems to be in the plug on the truck, or in the wiring on the truck.

Plugged trailer into buddies truck and all worked fine. i get nothing on my truck, not even a change in the bbrake controller, to tell me the trailer is there.

About a monthh ago, I had the truck into the "5 STAR DEALER" to fix a problem with the left rear tail light. They said they found a wire corroded in half. Could they have possibly "miswired" the repair. #@$%!

TIA, Scott

I had a problem with mine and it ended up being the fuses, only the right side brake and turn signal worked on the trailer. No running lights and no left side lights

Are u useing the rv to 6 way adapter?Ive always had problems with them thats y i wire a seperate 6 way,no more prob. 's

MWiacek has a valid point... you need to understand that all trailer connections are fused with a separate set of fuses in the panel...

I've had problems keeping my trailer batteries full... the wiring in the truck just doesn't seem to be up to par with my older stuff... I finally ran a separate 10 gauge (real 10 gauge) wire from the batteries to the back of the truck through a 30 amp fuse of course... I picked up over a 1/2 volt when the trailer is connected to the truck measured at the trailer batteries... .

Checked all the FUSES, all test good. Could it be a RELAY? I really don't want to take it back to the 5 Star Idiots again.

I am using the stock 7 pin outlet that came with the truck when I bought it.

we spent about two hours building us a test box to test 7 pin plugs on trucks and trailers it saved us money on the first problem we had that was twenty years ago ond it gets used several times each year it has seven ge53 lights one hooked to each lead with the ground one hooked to a power cable that clips on the battery on the + side of the power cable we series a bulb used for headlight then we added six switches each connected to a lead and the other ends connected to the head light when connected th the truck you can see the function of each connected to the trailer you can turn on each function to if you have a short in the trailer wiring it light's the headlight bulb and you can leave it on while trouble shooting, as soon as short is removed the light goes out

Took the truck to the dealer, and they would not touch it as they said it was not OEM/DODGE wiring. Took it to the guys that always work on my trailers, wanting them to check it all out.

After 2 hours of testing and repairs they have all right side lights working, but nothing on the left side. Traced it all the way to the point the wiring enters the cab, but could not go any further. They seem to think it is in the factory wiring in the steering.

Could the 5 SPUD Dealer screwed something up when they did the "clock spring" last fall in the steering wheel?

TIA, Scott

My 03 had this when I bought it in May of 07... Three trips to the dealer... . The third one to replace the trailer power distribution controller for the trailer lights... The electronics tech says that it is not all that uncommon. My 4-wire plug corroded and shorted out left turn and the tail lights... They found the tail light fuse was gone on the first trip but the PDC was not found until the second trip. My part number for an 03 Quad cab 4x4 long bed is CMC 68005474AA, Price was $458 plus install. . No problems since June of 07.
Good luck.
