My dealer looked high and low to find the exact truck I wanted. I did not have enough time to order one from the factory. The truck they did find had everything but factory tow mirrors. I have the integrated brake controller, Tow Haul mode, and the exhaust brake. The Service dept did a lot of research for me and determined that the 2011 and 2012 trucks without factory installed tow mirrors cannot yet be updated with tow mirrors. Something about the door modules blowing when such a mirror is installed. Does anyone out there have any info on whether Ram is working on the problem or when it might be solved. Using CIPA add on mirrors is not the best solution.

I bought the 2010 2500 Laramie with the fancy regular mirrors. With the offer of tow mirrors at cost after the purchase. The dealer couldn't find tow mirrors replacements. It's true that new trucks without the mirrors can't get the tow mirrors. I had even spoken with mopar who were surpised at the fact. I registered complaints with Dodge but it didn't help me at all. So after doing a little research (on various Dodge ram sites) I just used the vin from a new truck (laramie) in the dealer lot that had the tow mirrors I was looking for. The dealer used that vin number to order me tow mirrors (they were ordered as replacements). I did the install very easily two years ago with no issues. My truck has the computer module that controls mirrors and everything else for that matter.

My understanding is that the issue only applies to the 2011 and 2012 years. For 2010 the non tow mirrors could be replaced without the door modules being blown making everything electrical in the door inoperable.

HI, I bought a 2011 2500 Laramie Longhorn with non tow mirrors, I had them replaced with tow ones without any problems, save for the price.

Price is no object. Did you get them from a dealer and did they install them? I have had two dealers tell me that Mopar does not recommend doing the swap until they figure out why it immediately blows the door modules. I would like to talk to whoever did the swap.

I guess it's a little complicated, because I did it over here in Switzerland, the dealer is not an official Ram dealer, as in Switzerland there is no official importer. anyway he did the install. I didn't know Mopar does not recommend the swap.
I send you a private message with the email address, maybe he can help you.

Update on installation of Tow Mirrors on 2012 2500. Before our trip west this past summer I told the dealer to install OEM mirrors and not hook them up to the power. I would adjust them manually. They were installed and the Service Rep came out and said "guess what?" They connected the harness and all the power options worked. Apparently at the construction of the Truck, the correct module allowing for tow mirrors was installed.
As it turns out I ordered a new 3500 to tow the new trailer after determining the Payload Capacity would be exceeded by about 600# for the 2500.

There shouldn't be a problem between the non-tow and the tow mirror as far as the power adjust. Now, the puddle lamps and the turn signals could be the problem spots.
