Was wondering if anyone has the fix for this.....

The last few times I've towed my TT, the trailer makes creeking noise when making turns. I figured it was rusty components in the suspension so I gave a good coat of oil to the shackles and between leaf springs. Still makes the noise... maybe not as much, but still audible.

Any ideas?

My Fifth wheel does the same thing, as does nearly every trailer I can remember pulling. I know the electric brakes will contribute to the "creak" noise, But I think it might just be the flexing of the frame and cariage. Just my thoughts:rolleyes: .

I had the same noises on my 95 5er. The nylon bushing were wearing and also getting a little metal rub. I instaled the HD greaseable schackle kit and now it tows noise free. Good luck.

My TT did the same thing when executing sharp turns. I think it was the weight distribution system that was the primary culprit. The 5ver makes noise if the skid plate isn't lubed properly, but that's the only thing I've noticed to this point.

Are You SURE It's the 5ver??

We had the squeaking and chirping noises when towing our previous 30' and current 36' 5ver with our 1996 3500. I put enough oil on the 5ver suspension components to fill a tanker (well, almost!) :(

Turns out the noise was being caused by the rear leaf springs on the truck. There's a TSB on this over on Dave Fritz's website under "Suspension" - sorry, but I don't have his web address here on my home computer.

No problems at all on the 2002 3500. :D

Rusty, this is my first 5ver. I know about the seals around the hatches and slideouts, and lubing the axles, but are there any other areas to pay attention to as maintenance concerns?

Gary Schneuer has this just right. Worn bushings and pins!

^^^^

Dexter Axle just couldn't spend the extra pennys to put drilled pins and zerks in their axle assemblies. I have had to put the kits in several trailers. The kits will end the noise for sure. Just another reason not to buy anything with Dexter under it.

If you have a lot of miles (over 20,000 the bushing in the suspension are worn out, just replaced mine, about $40. 00 woth of parts depending on where ytou buy them. One place wanted 99 cents for the nylon bushings but I got them for 50 cemts at a truck and trailer parts place. bg

Mniver,

RThompson, where do u get the kit.

Large RV supply house should have them or access to catalog where they can be ordered. Yellow pages under springs look for supplier of commercial truck springs or a rebuilder of springs.

I think the local NAPA dealer put in a special request to a spring dealer for me. If you have any problem I can get a part number for you. They sell lots of them given the quality of the orginals.

You might want to check the sway control, if you have one. I found on mine that the creaking occurs when turning. I took off the control for just a little while... No creak!... Lee
