Last night my trailer relay melted. I was able to get it out without hurting anything, at least I think. I towed a flatbed that is usually towed by a powerstroke and I think the trailer fried the relay. Anyway, I took out the ASD relay and put it in the were the trailer relay goes. I then checked things at the plug and everything seemed to be ok. My question is how do I replace this relay. I went to the local autozone and they sold me a relay that looks the same but it looks like it is for the lamps. On the reciept it called it a 30 AMP Relay. I also picked up another relay that the reciept calls it a AC Control Relay. Is there a difference. Are these relay's set to an amperage or are they all the same. I am awful at wiring/electrical stuff.

Thanks

Russell

A 30 amp relay is a 30 amp relay. Depending on application an A/C relay could be 5 ampp capacity or even less.

You want to go with the fuse that is in the trailer circuit. I was thinking it might even be a 40A fuse for the trailer ckt for battery feed. The relay is for the running lights though, isn't it? so that should be something lesser. I don't have the manual right now. Check an owner's book too, I think the ratings are listed there too.
