After running 880 miles today, I've decided that I want to put in a toggle switch for an interupt on the trailer running lights. I know I could splice in back at the trailer receptacle, but is there a way to do it without running 20ft of wire?

Running lights are on the same circuit as the tail lights on the trailer so unless you rewired you trailer and connector to seperate them ... . And you would still have to run the 20' of wire to the cab.

Yup, I'd just like to be able to flash back at the corteous truckers without killing all of my lights (headlights) via the light switch, or shutting off the cruise control by tapping the brakes.

I'm just talking about a rocker switch that would bypass the tail/running lights on the trailer. I'd prefer to find a wire closer to the cab than the rear bumper though.

I'm going to bed, been up 24 hours now, just one of those thoughts while driving :-laf

i just use the hazard lights to flash behind me... works well enough for me. .

Yeah, but I wanna look like a big dog :D

And besides, any break light action, could be taken as a brake check by someone.

GoCarGo, I'll check that, no cutting and soldering on OEM wires that way either.

ah, but my turn signals are not red... mine are amber housed within the clear spot for the stock backup lamps... both of the red lamps on mine are brake lights...

Find the wiring loom that runs from the engine compartment to the plug on back. Go underneath the front of the cab just behind the front drivers wheel and it should be there. You should be able to splice into it there. That's where I tapped into the hot wire for my "custom" wired trailer. The wires remain constant from the front to the back so all ya gotta do is figure out which one is clearance at the plug.

It would be a lot easier to put an interrupter in the cab clearance lights. I can't remember which side it's run on, but the wire for the cab lights is inside the A-pillar. Might be kinda hard for a trucker to see from the back of ya with a trailer behind, just flash 'em as you're goin' by.

I am planning on going with the use route to install my inturupt switch, make sure that the fuse that oyu put back in the holder after you install your switch is a blown fuse, or you will not have inturupt, and make sure you put an inline fuse in your switch circuit.

Yeah, they would never see the cab lights after I settled back in front of them. GoCarGo may have the easiest solution, although I'd like to have it all soldered in nice and neat.

I'm sure I **** some of them off anyway. Traveling through the "East Coast Mountans", they go from 50MPH to 90MPH, 50MPH to 90MPH, and the ole Cummins stays steady on 70MPH :-laf

I've gotta get a CB too, all night talk radio is hard to get and music will eventually put you to sleep. Did 1250 miles in the past 23 hours, time for some ZZzzzzzzzzz.

Just did 2238 from Ohio to Cape Cod to Tampa in a little over 43 hours. The leg from Mass to Fla had me watering and checking hay for 2 horses every fuel stop. Plus I try to give them a little breather after I fuel.

I've been using my hazards like Nick suggested. I looked for a fuse I could tap into, but all I found was a fuse that allowed another circuit to be added. I'm thinking of using 2 blade terminals, an inline fuse and a toggle. The dude at one parts store said none of it would work because the ECM looks for Ohms or resistance or something and not voltage. He said he was a diesel mechanic in the military/reserves and the Hummer is the same way. He also said they were scrapping the 6. 2 and going to I believe a 7. 0?

You all know about the "he said, she said" :-laf

Oh, BTW ... ... ... ... coming back through Ga at a Flying J, a small motor home pulled in the next fuel stop over. I couldn't hear a diesel, but he was at the diesel pump. I happened to glance over and saw a "3500" on the side that look awful reminiscent. Upon closer inspection, sure enough there was a Rams head on the hood. He said it had the 5 cylinder MB and couldn't get away from a wet fart :-laf
