trailer tires

I just bought a used 32ft gooseneck tri-axle, and it's in need of tires. It has old bias-ply on it now, trailer sat for about 5 years, so I am totallly redoing it. Can I put on a set of light truck tires with a E or F rating on it. It has three 7,000lbs axles all with electric brakes.

You can put E rated LT tires. I do not know of any F rated LT tires although there are G's... Goodyear G614RST I think it's called, in a load range G around $220. The best LR E tires are steel/steel construction which would be Michelin XPS ribs but they are around $180 each. Otherwise get whatever has the least aggressive tread to last the longest. Since you are over in PA you could call up Wingfoot and get retreaded steel/steel tires with a trailer specific tread for about $85 each. This is what I am going to be doing I think.

That's the size that's on it now 7. 0x16. 0, if i were to use LT tires what size should I use. The hankook LRG's, how do they ride, last, I guess there not radial's. Mostly using to trailer to haul my 12v to pulls and maybe some hay.

Actually, I found these on the road at the Goodyear dealer in Vandalia, Ill while crossing I70 heading to Ca.



He wanted $140 and I gave hime $125 for a set of 4.



They ride excellent and I think I even get better fuel mileage.

Keep shopping, I just bought nine of the Goodyear G614RST's for $173 each.

we use nothing but 16" LT "E" rated tire on all our trailers. I recieved a e-mail from Michelin, some time back, when inquiring more info on their XPS Rib for a commercial trailer tire. They also recommended the B F Goodrich Commercial LTs for trailer use. Michelin owns B F G.

If you are looking for "E" rated tires, How are the ones on your truck? I know of folks who move the used tires from their truck to their trailer when they are about half used up. This keeps new tires on the truck and fresh rubber on the trailer where it suffers more from age than wear.

what would be a good size to go with probably a 225R/75R/16, I have 7. 00x16's bias-ply now and there weather cracked from sitting so long.

The Hankooks should be radial. The size is 7. 5R16LT. I am not sure what type of sizing standard that is? A lot of trailers with 16" tires will get a 235 85 16.
