Trailer tires

This is my scenario , I put some new tires on my truck with white lettering on them and I am wondering if I have to use trailer tires on my 5th wheel or can I put some white lettered car tires on my trailer also. The tires I want are a 35psi 6ply tire , If anyone can shed some light on this I would be a happy camper... .

I don't know for sure in your case, but I know that some of the larger fivers (montana, teton, carriage) use 16" LT tires as standard equipment on their products. I would imagine you could do the same. We have several box trailers we use at work that have LT tires on them and have had no problem.

Tire specs

If you do a little research on tire specifications you will find that the side walls of trailer tires are stiffer so less heat can be generated while rolling down the road.



IMO you should stick with a tire rated for ST (special trailer) or go with a LT rating that is a little higher than the stock tire and stay away from the P (passenger) rated tires.

Thanks for the input , you just told me what I wanted to know . When I bought the 5th wheel the old owner still had bias ply's on it and I blew one last year from heat , so hear I am looking to replace them... ... . Pete
