Trailer Weight

Looking at the Pace Specs on a 40' GN it has a base Curb Weight of 6610 lbs. So loaded I "should" be under 11,000 lbs of trailer weight...

lawdog,

srw is rated to tow more because the truck weighs less

I think if you drive a lwb you will find there is very little difference in manuverability. My '03 lwb/drw is actually easier to park than my '01 swb:confused: go figger!

If you go auto I would recomend 4:10 gears

Thats all I can tell you,

I heartedly recommend the dually, 6 speed, 4:10 gears and a Jake brake for your application. I cannot comment on the desirability of the goose neck vs the 5th wheel as my experience is only with a fiver.

DUALLY!!!

Get the long one too. Don't worry about parking at the races, they leave enough room for Tucker and Blair to get their semis in there!

I lost an axle on my whopping 17 foot trailer a couple years ago. There was about 2 inches of snow on the road (we were running about 60 instead of the normal interstate rate of 75) and the truck never swayed. The trailer did, it went from swinging all the way over the left lane to all the way over the shoulder.

I had a SRW before and snow on the road could get the truck swinging!

How did you do this year? I crashed in my last race and I'm still recovering from a brain injury. I had a few F-7 problems at the earlier races, I won a Masters class and DNF'ed while running 3rd in Pro Open because they starved for fuel with about 4 1/2 gallons of fuel in it.

Single wheels are also less squirrelly in mud.

In July/2000 there were over 100 trucks, most of which were srw 4x4's, stuck in a landfill in Houston. While they were getting there bumpers pulled off by dozer drivers trying to help, I backed my 37,000 pounds past them & left. I live 5. 5 miles from the nearest paved road & I along with other drw 4x4 or 2x4 pull the srw drivers out, go ask any farmer/rancher which is better in the mud, ice ect. There is a steep hill called Chalk Mountain (Hwy 67 between Hico & Glen Rose, TX) I've driven over when it was iced over, which our 4x4 suburban nor dads 4x4 (with 305 wranglers) could not, in fact I was told the next day by the police officer (Hico PD) "you were the only person to make it over with out help, I didn't know duallys made that much of a difference. " As a roofing forman (nails) who pulls 26,000lb trailers, I cannot say enough about the convenience of "limping" to a tire shop with one (I've actually had two - drivers outside, passenger inside) low or flat tire. The solid feeling you get in the rear from 8 sidewalls has to be felt to understand. I driven many srw 2500 & 3500, for pulling a trailer I wouldn't have anything but DRW. With that said, I personally prefer the chassis cab style (wheels under the bed) to duallys. nuff said

The only bad things I can think of are lower fuel mileage, & more tires to buy.

Auto vs 6 or 5 speed. With the autos that are available now its just a personal preference.

5th wheel vs Goosneck. Goosneck wins every time (strength, safety, & ride). my ball is rated for 30,000lb

just my knowledge :p

Thanks for the good advice guys... .

Extreme1 - I found out that I am TOO old to try and race Sno-Cross. I did the first 2 races and took a good whack in the melon in the second. I gotinto a corner with another sled on my left and he rubbed just right and I tipped over on the right side. Nice soft roll, no big deal... . BUT WAIT... Just as I was trying to get up, another sled came by on the outside and slammed me in the head with the sleds spindle. . The hit was hard enough to make me a little dizzy and it cracked my ARAI VX-Pro. . bad way to loose $800. 00 custom painted helmet, but no more brain damage than I may have had prior... The wifey (fiancee)decided I was done racing. I did not argue much, it was too much work to try and get 2 kids going and myself too, so now I trail ride my pro (love it) and coach and try to get thi kiddies going... . The boy did not do so well as the 440 fan Pro is a bit much after coming off a stock 120 last year... big jump... . The daughter, first year racing got bests of a 4th and a couple of 5ths... Very easy to see who is more aggressive. She takes that little 120 and pushes hard for an 8 yr old... must be her red hair... ... When some kid came on the inside to pass her and he hit the side of her sled trying to squeeze in, she just turned harder into the corner and stuffed him out... way cool, she held her lead from him the entire race too... .

Sorry to hear about your crash. . What is the long term prognosis???

I should be OK but the melon is going to be tender for almost a year. No motorcycle (street) until maybe the end of the summer. I think I'm gonna have to quit racing too.

A kid I was passing when I was crashing told me he sold his sled and he's done racing. Nice kid, went back to the pits and got his poncho to cover me up with while the emergency crew was getting over there. I have no memory of anything from seconds before the start of the race until about a week later. The right side of my body is kind of numb but that (hopefully) will go away. My short term memory is getting better but it ain't perfect yet.

It sounds like you had a close one, glad you walked away from it. From what my racing friends whos kids have startedracing tell me, it's more fun watching them. Not as much work or as expensive either! It sounds like your daughter going to be fast on bigger stuff too.

I think she will be the fast one too... . She even has read other racers good too. SHe was trying to pass a kid going into a corner when they were into a lapper on a SkiDoo. . The other kid went outside to pass the lapper who then went wide mpushing the other kid out too. She saw this and dove inside and passed them both in the corner. . Man I was going nuts it was soooo cool.....

I hope you get back to normal in a short time, or at least back to normal, That sucks. I figure I have been lucky twice, so I have slowed down a bit. I have more fun blasting thru the whoops now than doing 100 mph or so down a straight trail. ever since my Big crash in 2001 almost breaking my back, I have slowed, no this one, I took the advise someone was passing along. I only did one ride with the fella's this year. all else was racing or family riding, and I really enjoyed it. . Another friend got tore up this year too, hit a pile of snow some loggers put into the trail. . seperated his houlder 4 inches, broke 2 ribs and his pelvic in 2 places and chipped a vertbrae... ... Scary part of that was his machine was the identical twin to my 2001 I crashed in 2001 and the same type of crash, and the sled damage looked almost identicle... ... spooky...

OK, I am really confused now..... I just spoke to John at Johns trailer sales and he said I do not have enought truck to pull a 38-40 ft GNeck enclosed car trailer... . Now I may agree on having a 2500 and not a 3500, but when he said my Cummins was not enough motor:--) HUH. He said I need a Durapuke or Chebbie V* diesel, the 6 cyl Diesel was not enough motor... ... Yeah Whatever dude

Maybe I should go over & take John for a ride in my truck?!!?

He'd proally have to change his shorts when we get back tho!

BobOo.
