trailer weight

I found a weigh station that is closed on saturday, but the scales work. I weighed my truck the other day, and it came to 6660 lbs.



I want to weight my TT, but I dont want to have to deal with unhooking it to get a true weight if I dont have to. If I weigh just the trailer wheels first, then weight the truck (still hooked up to the trailer), and subtract the weight of the truck (leaving only tongue weight ?), will I get the true weght of the trailer ?

You got the idea. It's also valuable info if you are setting up WD bars etc. I'd like to do that myself.

By doing it the way you are describing, you will also know the hitch weight of the camper. Keep in mind that any load changes (fuel level, etc. ) from your previous weighing may cause a small error.

I brought home my portable scales from work (Being a Motor Carrier Officer is handy sometimes) and weighed out the truck and race trailer each axle independantly. Here are the figures... ... . NOTE: Truck 2003 QC SB 4x4 3/4 tank fuel, 315's... ... ... . Trailer, 32' Featherlite (40" overall) g'neck enclosed race trailer, cabinets, gear and 3 snowmobiles... ... little under 1/2 tank of propane (18. 7 gal tank)... .



Truck alone: front axle - left 2200 lbs right 2000 lbs 4200 total

rear axle -Left 1400 lbs right 1500 lbs 2900 total

TRUCK TOTAL 7100 lbs



Truck and trailer (Axles numbered 1-4 from front to rear 1 being front of truck)





1 - lt 2200 rt 2100 total 4300 (Difference 100)

2 - lt 2900 rt 2850 total 5750 (Difference 2850)

3 - lt 1400 rt 1300 total 2700

4 - lt 2000 rt 2000 total 4000



Trailer total 9650 lbs

Combination total 16,750 lbs

That is pretty funny considering your line of work that you would be 1150 over GVW, and that is probably with no gear or people in the truck, those 315s are pretty close to max as well. :-laf

If I add it up right, he's only 150 lbs over (4300 + 5750 = 10050 lbs, 3500 SRW GVWR=9900 lbs) 10050-9900=150#



Let's just hope he doesn't weigh 1000 pounds!

Woops, guess I carried 1 to many 1s. Guess it is not that bad after all.

Dually might be next... ... Need a Mega cab Dually though..... Also the 315's went back on last friday, been running stockers for winter pulling trailer... . 315's too much with 3. 73 gears, truck likes the 265's much better...
