I was just curious how to find out easily what a particular trailer weighs. I have a 2003 2500 QCLB 6 speed 4x4 and I'm looking at someday buying a gooseneck toy hauler. I've looked at the Pace American site, the Featherlite Site, and a couple of local manufacturers who can custom build one for me. Not one of the websites lists the weights of any of their trailers even if they have standard models with specified lengths. I realize that there will be differences with different options, but how do I figure if a trailer is too big?

I'm looking at about 14 feet of living quarters on the floor plus the additional queen bed space in the gooseneck overhang and 16 feet of "garage" space for a total length of around 36 feet.

I want to haul four bikes - 2 street and 2 dirt - that should weigh roughly 1500 lbs plus all the gear. This is the ideal situation. I don't want to overload my truck so I'm willing to compromise on living quarters length or even garage space.

Is there a rough formula you can use or is it just easier to call the manufacturer?

Check out www.holidayrambler.com they have the nicest toy haulers i have seen yet. Look for the next level 37' they also make a 34'. The 37' weighs 10,679 pounds empty, it doesnt list a weight for the 34'. You should be able to pull just about any fifth wheel if you have a 3500.

Ususally a 3 axle toyhauler will have a GVW of around 13K to 15K. Now they do overbuild them for the wieght carying capacity.

I have a TT from Desert Fox that has a GVW of 11K for the wheels and it is 28' long. Right now with my 750# quad in it the trailer wheels are 10,400# (also all living stuff) Has 2 beds and full kitchen and bathroom.

Alfa Makes a toyhauler that is sorta long

The model 267 has a GVW of 18K but the dry weight is 12,320.

From that dry weight, you need to add the Bike weight, food, water, cloths, helments, etc. You might get it up to 16K or so by the time youre done... .

For this big of a trailer, you are going to need better suspension or added air bags... .

For that size of trailer, almost all MFG's will be around there

Since you will be using the trailer to haul cargo the only weight you really need to know is GVWR of the trailers under consideration. Manufacturers will specify that number in their brochures and on websites. Empty weights wouldn't be of much use to you and and manufacturers usually underreport unladen weight anyway.
