I just took the wheels off of my Sunnybrook 31BWFS 5ver to paint because of rust and realized the tires are not balanced. The trailer has shocks, but I don't know if balancing is needed. Any ideas ? The trailer has only 6000 miles on it so it is hard to tell if the tires are wearing OK or not.

I have never seen any trailer wheel balanced, you could if you wanted too, the main reason the trailer manufactures don't is cost.

I am no authority on the matter. Only using what I consider common sense. If a truck tire is out of balance, it causes an uncomfortable ride as well as extra wear on the chassis and tires. Just because you are not riding in the trailer does not mean the same thing does not happen to the trailer. Therefore, for the last 25+ years of trailering, I have kept my trailer tires balanced. Have not had any undue vibration ralated problems with trailers and have had excellent tire wear. Have had to be firm at times with the tire dealers because they say, "no one balances trailer tires". My come back is, "I DO". I just replaced all tires on a '94 32ft Holiday Rambleer, and you guessd it, they were balanced before I installed them. But as the old saying goes, "each to his own".

I pull a 1998 27ft Travel-Eze 5er, balanced mine right after I got it home. Has shocks. Keeping them balanced cuts down vibration and gives even wear, your choice. It's just a matter of cost. First set of tires (4) were replaced by Goodyear (2 blow outs ), no hassle from mfg. Have had the rig on numerous extended trips to Ohio, Georgia, Montana, Washington state and countless times to the beach here on the West coast. Nice even tire wear. So far so good.

I agree. Trailer wheels should (must?) be balanced. Even if the trailer manufacturers are too cheap to do this. My 97 Newmar came with balances wheels. Not sure about my 2004. Hope to pick it up this afternoon but I am sure they will have weights on them as well. Previous to the 97 none of the trailers I bought has balance wheels.

My new (then) flatbed trailer bounced around when it was empty. I finally had the wheels balanced and now it tows smoothly.

I believe in balancing trailer tires.

Doesn't matter what it is - if it rotates, balance it! ;) :D It, and the machinery it's attached to, will last longer and usually work better.
