Troubleshooting electric trailer brakes?

Quality RV Manufacturing Features

That's a valid point, RVTRKN. I'd estimate the winch box itself weighs roughly 175# (110# winch, 30# Optima, 20# hitch bar, 15# misc). The steel for the receiver platform and reinforcement probably adds 30# more, so it's an extra 200# plus on the tongue.

We'll have to see how my 2500 handles it with a big load, but I normally don't haul very heavy items (except for my forklift, which pushes the limits but is tail-heavy). The trailer is licensed for 8,000# and currently has 3,500# axles. I'd like to upgrade the axles to 5,000# so I can run heavier springs and 6-lug wheels for an extra safety margin.

On Edit: I have already upgraded the factory truck receiver to a Putnam XDR in anticipation of this extra weight and run a heavy duty draw-bar. In fact, I welded the OEM receiver tube to the Putnam for a super-strong hitch. Pics of this are in my Photo Gallery.
