there is also tork-lift hitches, they are good to a 1,500 lb. tongue weight.

Since the trailer is on hold, can you do the 5th wheel toy hauler? instead of putting the dirt bikes in the bed of the truck.

steve

The toyhauler won't work as I usually don't camp where I ride from. I'll drop the family and camper off and then haul my bike somewhere close by to go riding.

Thanks

That was just an incredibly funny sociopolitical commentary on how some threads can turn into arguments :-{} when, in general, most posts are not intended to be antagonistic.

Although I subscribe to the "more is always better" theory ;), I have to agree with Rockcrawler, the proposed trailer would seem to be within the capacities of the 2500 mentioned (with the appropriate WD set-up). If he does have a problem, it will be with the hitch rating, not the GVWR unless the tongue weight loaded is far above 1200 lbs. On the other hand, for my load, a SRW/shortbox with 35" load range D tires just wouldn't cut it as I'm right at my 12,000 lbs GVWR all loaded up.

If'n it were me, I'd buy the trailer, load it up, weigh it and buy a class 5 hitch only if I was well over 1200 lbs.

my 2 pennies,

Dave

On edit: his GVWR cushion may disappear depending on the load in the truck box and a 5er toyhauler would likely have too much tongue weight for his 9000 lbs GVWR.

This is pretty much the route I'm going. When I stated, a truck that could tow "anything" I meant that as a pun, obviously I can't tow anything. and most campers in this size have about a 900 lb tounge weight. But I ordered the unit. The unit itself is well within what a 2500 could tow. when I get it, I'll bring it home and load it all up and with gear and the wd bars and get it weighed. It has from and rear storage compartments, so I'll just pay attention to how I load it . If it comes it too much tounge weight, I'll get a class V hitch. I believe the trailer is well within the capability of a 2500. I didn't want a dualie and some auto insurance companies here in wonderful NJ won't insure a 3500 as a personal vehicle. My buddy just went through it when we wanted to buy a f-350. The insurance states that if you are buying a truck that heavy duty, it's for commercial use.

Thanks for all the input.

Sorry Craig, I get the humor now. As my wife often suggests, I'm a little slow! ;)

I tow my rockcrawler scrambler almost every weekend. The trailer and rig weigh in at 10,456lbs. I have a toung weight scale and load my rig with 800lbs of toung weight. This weekend I towed a kabota L48 tractor on the sam trailer. Because of the lenght I loaded it backwards and ended up with a toung weight of 1189lbs. The hitch worked great and the truck loved the weight. It seems the more weight you tow the better the truck gets.
