2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Said Goodbye to my 01.5 Today

My truck has a factory tow package with the 7 round. I have stop and turn.

but have no running lights. I checked the plug and have now power for the running lamps on the truck side. i know the lights onthe trailer work. I hooked it too three different trucks. I also have a tekonsha p3 on the way with the dodge harness with it. any help would be great.
 
When I started having trouble with my trailer plug wiring it was the connection where the pigtail on the plug plugs into the wiring harness on the truck. The wires were so corroded where they went into the plug that some would just pull out. I ended up cutting the plug right off the trucks harness and soldering, heat shrinking and sealing a piece of 7 wire in place to connect to the trailer plug.



I also made up a 7 pin plug with lights wired to it than I can plug into the truck for checking if all the pins had power to them. You can also buy a test plug with LEDs to plug into the truck to check the truck plug functions.

I'm not sure if there's a specific relay for trailer running lights. Check the contact in the plug with a meter. If there's no juice there then check the connector where the plug goes into the trucks harness. Check the fuses as well. We had a similar issue with my dads F150 and it turned out there was a separate fuse trailer lights.
 
in the 01 service manual there are 2 fuses. #5 & #8 under the hood in PDC. I would check there first. Then if they are good you can start looking at the connections under the hitch. -Jason
 
I installed a backup light kit right on the hitch and the wires corroded away in two years-much quicker than I expected. I can only assume that your trailer wires are having the same problem. All the road spray and salt get kicked up there. Can't be good for it. Good luck
 
Get some non-conductive lube and gob the hell out of the female end then do the same on the male ends not only does it make things slippery (oh baby:-laf) to help ease sticking it in and pulling it out (there I go again;)) but will also keep the terminals from corroding.
 
I was going to suggest that, I blew mine at 10 pm, the night before I was suppose to leave on a trip, had to drive aobut 20 miles to find a replacement, now I carry extras so I won't have the problem again, good ole Murphy's Law:D:D
