I don't know if this is ok to do?

With our roads getting worse and worse I am considering doing some ride conversions. One being an air 5th wheel hitch. Since I run a mega the options are somewhat limited. The one at the top of my list is Trailersaver, I like that they are a well established company and the product looks top of the line. So anyone use one? I am not sure if I am going with the remote or manual slider.

My other air upgrades are going to be seat, kelderman 2 bag rear suspension, and maybe an air receiver hitch.

I built a hitch pin... . for my 5er that has an air bag in it... . when I first saw them advertised I thought they were some gimmick... . but a few months ago I was along side of one on the highway and was surprised how much the trailer moved in relationship to the truck... .

There are at least 2 vendors of these on the market... . both I thought were high... . we built one in our shop and installed it... its been on the trailer for about 2000 miles now. . and so far I'm very pleased... if you sit and watch it through the back of the cab, the air bag is always moving a little... .

TrailerSaver

I have a Trailersaver TS3, mounts on standard Reese rails. Better ride in the TV and most everything in the trailer stays in place. It seems to be a lot easier on the trailer structure. They are costly but I'm sure you would soon appreciate the ride quality and not want to be without it. :)

Using the air ride hitch for over a year now. Would never switch back to a regurar hitch. Best $2,000 ever spent. Expect the trailsaver would be much the same.

You can get an extended tongue for your trailer and will not need a slider. I have bin using one on my Cardinal for two years with an air ride hitch and a mega cab short box with no trouble. Sets the trailer back about 10". Got it from the same company that made The original on the trailer. The phone # was on the tongue.

Thanks Harlan I will look into that.

Does it put any extra stress on the trailer hitch?

Have you noticed any stress cracks?

Just wondering, I have a gooseneck adapter on mine and have heard some stories about stress cracks. I have none YET!

I know different setup, but seems that extending the trailer hitch would do the same thing

A pin box by 5th air will do you right. They are a little longer if you ask/with same bolt pattern. I have one, no takebacks----Proflow

I have not seen any stress cracks thuse far and some of the roads are real bad over here. 5th air also makes one that they call a sidewinder that moves your pivot point back about 20" that is working out real good ,but you have to have your pine box really welded in good.

Extending the tongue wil put more preasure on the rig however, considering that with an air ride you have removed most of the really heavy jolts, or at least softened them up substanially it is probably still a bonus for the structure. That is only my private opinion after having experienced the ride with and without an air hitch.

Ron: :)

I was just looking threw my new Camper World. cataloge and they have the new 5th airborne `air suspension and sidewinder pin box & coupler in there. Page 61. If you need it the Phone # 1 800 626 5944. There are pictures so you can see how they work. They are engineered not to over load you trailer.

Hope this helps.

I have the TS3 with serial number 53... . It is in its second Ram and has always worked well..... Larger capacity than most other hitches and very easy to operate with the Holland Binkley head... . Just a mini version of what you will find on a large semi truck. I do grease the pivot points before each trip... . I wound buy it again worth every dime. :)

I had the TS3 in my truck for a while. I stepped up to the Hitchcrafters 32K model, ( I tow a heavy trailer). They are the same except the HC is a little more heavy duty. The ride is not even comparable to a fixed mounted hitch. I would never go back.

I still have the TS3 if anyone is interested.
