My tralior lights all work except the running lights(the ones that when you turn the lights on at night , the trailor lights also light up) .

At first I thought it was my boat trailor , first time I ever used it at night . The other day I hooked up a utility trailor and same problem , so obviously the truck .

Now I have the round trailor plug , and the straight 4 plug on my truck . The straight 4 dosnt work at all , so I have to use and adapter for anything with a straight 4 .

Any ideas?

Trailer lights

Sorry for not fallowing the ... . Have you got the pin out for the connections on the plug on the truck? Have you got a multi- meter so you can check that there is power on all the pins? If you don't have a meter be a good time to get one. Price as you can justify. Then Have you got a pin out of the trailers wiring that the two are the same? Don't know all the particulars but are you able to change the flat plug to a 7 pin round? Many years ago I had the experience of the flat wire cracking and shorting out, Toyota was very good in diagnosing the problem and not charging me much for my trailer wiring mistake! I don't believe in the flat wire for trailers.

had the same thing happen to my boat trailer, but it was also the right side turn signal. Kept thinking it was the trailer and was on the 3rd rewire until I just happened to put my dads round plug adapter from a Toyota Tundra on there and everything magicaly worked. I guess the difference was his was made in Japan and mine was hecho en mehico
