Plan on installing air horns on a 06 Mega-CAB. Horns from Hornblasters Air Horn Products, there called Conuctor's Special. Any one have a set of these, If so what do you think of them? Cost-install-sound? Any one else have a different type please fell free to jump in with info you might think I should know. Any and all opinions and comments appreciated.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have "junkyard specials" air horns from a Volvo OTR tractor. Tank came from the same yard, but off of a Ford F800. Less than $80. :)

Train horns would be even better. Oo.

Do you still have these and how loud are they? I am getting to the point that I don't care if I have to mount a 2 gal. air tank under the truck to make it work as long as it is louder than the world coming to an end. :--) The d*** people around this state just come into the side of the truck or just politely turn on the signal light and cut you off because they think they are entitled or something.  It is a good thing I have ground clearance for as many times as I have been in the median to keep my truck from getting hit. I just want to make the next IDIOT in a minivan pee all over their interior the next time this happens. :-laf :-laf  Mike

Do a search on my name for a long post I did about my experience over 12 years with my Grover air horns, compressor, etc. , plus I've been to the Grover factory in east Los Angeles. The Grover compressor is not a well-engineered unit; mine broke down fairly frequently; the piston & crankcase assembly of the compressor is mounted to the 12V motor with TWO! machine screws -- at least 4 are needed and the 2 won't stay tight; the connecting rod in the compressor can be either steel or aluminum -- the aluminum one won't hold the bearings; Grover now has a policy of adding a $25. 00 surcharge to all orders under $200; this is to discourage dealers from placing small orders, but kills people like us who want the $29. 95 rebuild kit and have to pay an extra $25. 00 for it if we don't live within driving distance of east Los Angeles.

Ya, I still have them on the truck. Need to get an air compressor, though. Tired of filling with shop air. They are pretty loud, but don't have a meter to say how many decibels they are. Should be at least 100Db.

I have a set of Nathan KL3's I like the K series because they are shorter, I have them tucked up under the passenger side of the bed. I have a 8 gal. air tank with a 3/4 H. P. 12 volt motor and a 150 lb. pressure switch. its located where the spare tire was. The horn is activated by a 1/2 in. self return spring loaded shower valve (I use a manual because you can ROLL on and off just like the locomotives did) I found that with horns like these you need not so much PSI but VOLUME so I ran a one inch braded neoprene line from the air valve which is right at the tank to the horn. I actavite the air valve with a very thin cable I run through a 5/16 steele brake line up to the floor board just in front of the seat. all you can see is a 1" ring on the floor . When I pull the ring I almost pee in my pants myself!! As you can see I'm sort of new to this sight so if I can figure how to post pics. I will. By the way if anyone is interested I have several of these air valves!

I put mine together buying mostly used parts off eBay. I have two 24" plus Freightliners mounted under the rocker panels. You can get an idea of how I did it off my "Readers Rig Gallery. "

I don't use them very often as it is pretty loud and I don't want to scare anybody to death... :D :D

I am now a vendor for the horns they sell on www.hornblasters.com

Same stuff but cheeper...

Also Viair Compressors.

I am making up build kits for high output horn systems...

email me if interested

I have a set of the Grover 18" horns,i can't remember what type they are. I just mounted them under/across the crossmember where the rad is. i didn't bother with the compressor for now but mounted a 5 gallon--135psi tank in the bed, wired in a switch and solinoid and i'm set. Works for me and half the time i forget i have them until its to late---the wife has to remind me most of the time---"give em the airhorn's". The novelty will wear off but about 1 second of air uses about 1/2 pound of air so i figure i can run for a minute or so before i should refill(minimum psi i think on these horns are 60psi in the tank to sound off). This setup works for me and i really have no need for the compressor part unless your into "BLASTING"'someone all the time. PS but hey they sure are fun when you need em,had to use them on a few idot drivers---"usually get the bird" but they get the message. :-laf :-laf :-laf
