Best "green" car of the year ?

California SMOG & Edge boxes

It was a 583 - - the operator was off the machine, but the best part was the UP told the Hulcher crew the main was shut down. I don't know if it was a communications problem or the train crew missed a stop order. I would be there was a communications error - - but what ever it was, looks like Hulcher is off the hook for the cost. :-{}

I used to work out of the Toledo Div. for hulcher and am wondering if this is Chip or Denny? just goin bi the day name. I have alot of pics and stories I can add to this thread. and is their any pics of the draw works and weight rack from that 83? I have both of those pics on my cell.

trainwrecker22 - - You've got Denny here swapppin' stories - - I also sent a copy of your post to Chip - - He is no longer with Hulcher either - - Safety became a concern

I work with B&B doing "Off track Crane Work / Link-Belt 150 ton crawler,

For Union Pacific,

#ad

This is the central region in Clarendon AR , 2800 feet long about 330 20" round 60' piles

We do tear outs, changeout, burnouts, derails etc, "DelMag" diesel 30-32 pile hammer/ swinging leads ",greasy & nasty, driving 14x89x5/8x 60' H-beams or round piles and precast caps and girders and premade panels doing changeouts throughout the midwest workin with track duriing curfews rebuilding rail bridges.

I like the form B for track protection we have to have it usually or a slow order.

Dangerous but we do have safety, not as hectic as a emergency and a lot less bosses most of the time.

The safety book dont count when the track is out of service!!! right.

ok I worked a few wreckes with you and chip. last one was some nasty stuff up their in Saginaw MI. car was on its side over 675. they brought in 2 250 ton cranes and one broke so we used the 83's. I ran the bigger 83. had all the tattoos and **** if u remember me. I seen the sunpro guys doing a remediation job down the road from me house and they said you retired. CONGRATS. yeah the safety at hulcher became a big concern for me as well. They woul hire any swinging dick off the street and preach work safe and some of the guys you would wonder how they made it through life. and we had a problem with our DM his thinking was if you surround youre self with idiots they look up to you like you are a god. but I will say Lonnie was one hell of a trainwrecker when he wanted to be.

Yep! I retired, (REALLY) miss working with you guys, but am in sunny Florida today - - Lonnie was my hero up in Saginaw with that tank car - - When the second crane broke down, I asked Lonnie if he was comfortable re-railing the tanks car with one crane, 2 sides and one bucket? (Not a real good idea) - - He asked who was going to be in charge. I got the crane operator and Lonnie together, told the crane operator Lonnie was running the operation and in a half an hour we all were headed for the house - - Y'all did a great job on that one! Well I was headed for the house, y'all probably had an hour or more to load out

Don't know what that stuff was. other than it evacuated half of saginaw and the rescue guys thought we were crazy for being in their and doing what we do with out scba gear on. we just went in got the job done and went home. Those are the things I miss about trainwrecking but the on call 24\7 living me life 45 mins from the shop and just waiting for the phone to ring got the better of me. I miss the job something fierce but to have a life and be able to go out of town for pleasure instead of work is priceless.

that man is one of the best trainwreckers out on the right of way. He would walk on a job and just take over. It was amazing to watch how he would winch a little here pick up their and could make a rail car on its side dance. I to this day would do any thing that man asked of me. but any way these are a few pics of 10 or 11 cars on the east side of bellvue yard

HELL
a moltn steel ladel car that sprung a leak. the car weighs in excess of 1 millon pounds. it carries molten steel from the blast furnace to the BOF. the shell of that car was about 500-700 deg. empty it is 350. (never gets below that) it takes about a month for those cars to cool

2 days and it is still glowing hot

The FD over reacted, but had not done a tank condidion assessment. - - - no leaks, no spill, minor damage to the jacket, no damage to the shell, after assessment was completed, car owner rep Ok'd up-righting - - - didn't need scba or chem protective clothing, altho it would have been warmer! - - - that was a "Get 'er Done" job - - Oh - - and try to stay warm!

try and stay warm was the name of the game.

when ppl talk about cold all I can say is that the red stuff in the thermometers freezes at -72 I know I have been colder but can't tell ya how cold

And Mr. Day is that the only pic you have of the cat that got hit? I have one more of the A-frame side. I am looking for pics of the draw works weight rack and maybe of the pole. RIP AND TEAR TRAIN REPAIR

crossing the MAC at the crack of dawn. don't remember where we were heading all I know was I was tired of driving. left toledo prob round 1 or 2 AM and started heading north.

Do you have any pics of high bridges or over water bridge crossings? I got bunches of pics of changeouts from all over hte central us mostly for UP. do have pics of a hot box burnout from a coal train in western kansas . Do you do off track pile driving?

Uncoupling a knuckle and going into emergency stop and having the cars coming into the back of the loco just a wonder to survive the accident very scary when you see heavy steel rolling at you and you must run or **** if you can get away. glad we do our exercizes every morning to bad we dont do enough to really matter much.

But we do get to write alot in our briefing/safety books.

RE: Video of Tornado

This is something that was always in the back of my mind while riding the rails.

YouTube - Tornado Derails A Train & the Train Cab View of it all

Saw this several months ago -- - - I was told the UP didn't know the camera was turned on in a trailing loco for several days - - great video - - kinda' shows how tough an EO car is - - Below is the a picture of the car taken after the wreck was cleared and the jacket cut away showin the damage to the shell of the car, its a wonder that it didn't light up the world. The Lord was lookin' over that crew that day.

Denny,

I can't remember which one but the corridor manager or dispatcher was popped on a drug test after that wreck.
