Hey guys, i recently purchased a 2007 dodge 5. 9 with a 6" lift and 37" tires. all i have done to it currently is the smarty junior. ordered ats torque converter and valve body just hasnt showed up yet. my question is with my chip on any setting or not even on at all sometimes when you floor it the engine revvs up and wont go into gear untill you let off the pedal. is there any way of telling weather the torque converter is slipping or if the clutch bands are slipping? any help would be appreciated because i dont want to install my ats parts. then pull the transmission again. . and replace clutch bands... thanks!

Direct clutch pack takes a terrible beating with big tires and stock line pressures and/or more power. Once they start slipping it usually effects the forward clutch pack also. Both are right at the front and relatively easy to pull and rebuild if they are bad. Pretty much every thing back of that is generally good unless it has been abused.

After seeing what 40k of tires or power will do to the stock parts on several trucks, do yourself a favor and at least do the clutch packs and check the clearances in the gear train. If your clearances are good the rest of the trans is probably good too, if not its just a problem waiting to bite you. :)
