What is the bolt pattern on our Cummins trans adapter ? Do you need the trans from a V-10 or do they bolt up to the auto's from the 318-360 's ? I'm trans planting a Cummins into a Bombardier ( A old very large snomobile)

I bet the new and old trans housings to your Cummins flywheel housing are the same as long as it was a hd version of the 727 Torq. Flite?

I like snowmobiles especially old Bombardiers, put me in your address book for photos and a progress update pls. . redmonde@comcast.net.

Good luck

1997 conversion to Nv4500 - need a new flywheel adapter?

Seemed like the closest topic I could find - didn't want to start a new thread if I could avoid it! I am converting a 1997 auto to an NV4500 for my repower conversion. Do I need a flywheel housing, or does the old flexplate housing work? Sure looks to bolt right up, but I have not gotten that far yet.

Thanks for any insight!

jon

flywheel (Flexplate) housing should work, just source a flywheel (Cummins is the cheapest) unless you are going 13" for the nv 5600 or nv 4500 with larger clutch, input shaft etc. .

Good luck

Thanks Andy! I lucked on a used flywheel, clutch, hardware, nv4500, np241hd, shift levers, boots, throwout assembly, the works from a great guy in tulsa for $1100. My wife picked it up at a horse show this weekend while she was there. , and now it sits in the garage ready to take the next steps!

Oh, now I need the master cyl, slave cyl, hardware/hoses for it, a yoke off the np241hd for the back, pilot bushing, and I am ready to rumble! Probably a new disk and turn of the flywheel are in order!

thanks, jon.

PCM and steering column, then you have the works for someone who wants to go automatic. .

Hint, Luk offers a good deal on the replacement clutch master/slave cylinder assy. Its less than 200 from Dodge and very important for proper and smooth clutch operation. I've seen hot shotters go thru them about every 100,000 and others last 300,000.

I wouldn't reuse a throwout bearing or used clutch and pressure plate (thats me). Southbend is best, but the Luk Pro Gold series is excellent for the money if you aren't going for super bombing power.

Good luck

Andy

Thanks Andy, for the Luk hint on clutch cyclinders, I figured they were only a clutch provider. Good to know.

To give you more context - my 1997 12v is getting a NV4500 5spd/np241HD, and all going into a 1978 F250 Crew. So no wiring, no PCM for me, and no steering column.

That is also why I am reusing the old parts for now - I suspect that engine will be in/out of that rig about a dozen time before I setting it all together. About the 11th time, new clutch and t/o bearing so it lasts!
