Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trans broke. Ideas anyone?

Went to go to work yesterday and the thing broke. No warning whatsoever.

It started by having to lift to get it to shift. Did it once then it was ok for a couple cycles through the gears. Then it did it again so I tried shift manualy. Didnt work. Pulled over to look at the tv cable ect and found that the shifter would not move out of drive. It will go 1-2-D but nothing else. I disconected the linkage at the trans and found that the shift lever only has 3 detents and the tv lever fells strange too. Like its hitting something. My trans shop thinks the front band may have broken allowing it to fall down. Anybody heard of this happining?

An update... The front band anchor broke and fell down on top of the valve body locking up the tv and shift linkage. I ordered a billet anchor and strut from Bill @DTT. The price was good and the service was outstanding. Truck should be back on the road tomorrow. Oo.
