Does anyone know how to seperate the trans cooler lines where the metal line attaches to the rubber line before it enters the cooler ?? I'm changing out my fluid for Amsoil ATF and want to get all the old stuff out. The line has some sort of plastic ring around it which I think has something to do with seperating the two. Any help is appreciated.

Just carefully squeeze the "ears" on the nylon insert and pull the line apart. This is one of the plastic connectors that have been widely discussed in the past. Before you put it back together make sure the nylon is in good shape.

I was wondering that also. has anyone ever reinstalled the lines with compression fitings to get fid of the plastic ones?

On your 96 ram you might not have the fittings with the ears. You may need to buy the line tool to do the job. You can get it at a parts store you'll need an half inch one. Just ask for a a/c snap line fitting tool.

Is this the plastic connector which has the possibility of melting during high trans temp. Don't they have an upgrade for this which gets rid of the plastic?

Always wondered where the notorous plastic fittings were. My '95 has steel flare fittings in that location. The truck was a demo and had 1200 miles on it when I bought it. Were the steel fittings stock in '95 or were they added later?

I not sure when the switch over was, but you can switch from the plastic to the metel inserts.

Last dealership I talked to said they had done away with the metal inserts and now you have to buy the whole line replacement kit. Definitly pricey, so I left mine and just periodically check the condition of the fittings.

The metal insert fittings leak when used in place of the plastic ones, they are different id. best bet is to change the lines. the worst line for causing problems is the t/c out line, the one coming out of the front of the transmision. Someone told me that when you replace the quik coupler with a compresion fitting the line will crack from vibration.

Give me a call if you need anything.
