Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Question on Workhorse

Well im dropping the trans off at the shop to get rebuilt today and I need to know if there are any risks of installing a screw on filter on the return side of the the trans cooler line. Im not sure if it will be too much of a restriction.

I have had people tell me that it would be better to put it on the hot side for better filtering, and this would also make getting my temp probe where i want it easier but I want to be sure that none of the crap from thats in the coolers from the stock trans makes it into the new one. Any suggestions you guys have are welcome, I know for sure that if there is no danger i want a screw on type filter for ease of maintanance.

Hot side is better for all reasons you said. Just flush the old fluid from the stock cooler and go with it.
