Took mine to the dealer and had a full flush done at 10K. It was around $115. At 25K had the pan droped and filter change. At about 40K will flush again and so on.

  • Remove pan, change filter, reinstall pan
  • Add 4 quarts new fluid
  • Remove rear line at transmission, add a hose into bucket
  • Start engine and idle in neutral till flow slows and shut off engine
  • Add 6 quarts new fluid and repeat
  • Add 4 quarts and reconnect line
  • Run engine in neutral refilling at the dip stick to proper level

So fellers,

to elaborate a little further. I have 15k on my 2004 48r and so I am going to have done or change the transmission fluid myself as I pull our trailer 2-3 times a season... It was reccomened by my dealer to have it changed every other year or 15K if pulling. Also can I make the switch to Amsoil synthetic at this point? Good time to switch over the pan to a cooler running pan?? Install transmission temp guage?? Thanks for any input. The money I save doing this myself I can afford the new pan and/or guage?

Later,

Griz

My service manual says to change trans fluid and adjust the bands at 30k. Dealer says he don't know or don't think my bands in the trans needs adjusted even though the manual says to do it. So has anyone had a dealer check their band at around 30k?
