I have always used dodge transmission fluid in the past but am preparing for a 4. 000 mile roadtrip this weekend and was unable to get some for a fluid and filter change. I got a case of Valvoline dextron III instead do you guys think this is going to be okay. What do you guys use? Thanks.

The new(er) ATF type III oils have a fair bit of friction modifiers in them. This has a tendancy to smooth out the shift feel... . it accomplishes this "smoothing" by allowing a bit more slippage.

You don't want that if you can avoid it.

The full synthetics are even more prone to this, even though they deal with heat MUCH better than regular ATF.

You can run "true type F", Dexron Mercron II for example and this will firm up the shift feel as it is a more "aggresive" oil with less friction modifiers.

It will depend on your preference for firm shifting/smooth shifting.

trans fluid

I used dexiii with lubegard additive (grey carton) which adjusts dexiii to cyrsler 7176 status. Lubegard is used by many trans. shops to make up for spermoil that is no longer in trans oil, the normal carton is red so make sure and get the one for chrysler.
