so i am comming up on my 30k and i would like to add the mag hytec double deep i just got and flush the trans. i cant seem to find my tech manual DVD. so how many quarts do i need TOTAL to do a full flush with a flush machine... . ?

I believe the stock capacity is 16 quarts with the 48RE pan. Added whatever the double deep gives you.

I normally buy 18 to do a complete change and use them up with the old drain the cooler return trick. With a machine you can be a lot more exact.

flush

Don't advise flushing of trans unless doing return line method as mentioned. Shops that have flush machines often do not change filter and clean pan AFTER the flush, then any debris dislodged by flush ends up in pan and in filter. Have rebuilt many transmissions within day or so of flush when filter not changed.

You would likely be fine as long as you routinely service trans with just a pan service.

ya im doing a new pan, and filter. then doing the flush with a flush machine. the funny thing is, i called the dealer and they said there is a "second" filter in the trans that needs to be cleaned. to bad i cant find this filter in the SERVICE manual... . hehehhe jokers.

could something like this cause the torque converter seal to blow out??

99% of the time its not a FLUSH its a fliud exchange. Usually using a BG machine. Best thing to happen to a auto trans since its invention. I've handled THOUSANDS in years back with NEVER a negative issue. Just did my 1500 again for like the 4th time. I did my filter and top off about 8 weeks ago and topped off my AMSOIL with ATF+4 as it was time to get the AMSOIL out. Then last week finally got my Amsoil ATF in and hooked her up and and exchanged out 16qts. Love the way the Amsoil works over ATf+4 semi syn or what ever it is. The Amsoil I had in it had been in it over 50k and time to replace it and filter. Now if I was going to do it again lets say in under 30k I would have more then likely left the old filter etc. I installed Amsoil in my Gran Marquis at 30k and did NOT drop the pan. I will do the filter at 60k to 70k and top off with Amsoil. There are different ways to do it. What ever makes you feel ok about it. But the point being getting 95% of the OLD fliud out including lines, cooler, converter is the life blood of a auto trans.

Would not normally cause a seal to blow.

If a trans is clean inside and in good condition, one may get away with fluid exchange without changing filter, but I have seen enough failures shortly after a fluid exhange or flush without changing filter afterward to advise against it. I do agree that keeping the fluid fresh and clean will add life to the trans, but alot of times the exchange or flush is done on a worn trans or one that has never been serviced, then the trouble begins. It is a good idea to know the trans' history.

Handled hundreds of fliud exchanges with the filter being done first time between 60k and 90k with never a issue. Like I said whatever gives someone a OK feeling.

I have a DD pan, completely drained including the tq converter, 18 quarts right on the mark.

This is not with a flush machine, this is with me dropping the pan, filter, and draining the tq converter(DTT tq converter has a drain plug).

The biggest problem I have come across with the shops that do trans flushes are the chemicals being used, not the machine or dislodging debris. They are a solvent base and there is no way to get it all out.

With a hot rodded diesel that is driven hard... ..... there is no way I would NOT change the filter. It can only hold so much before it will plug... ... ... . seen that scenario too many times

You don't use the solvent if you don't want to. The solvent is to help remove any varnish. If its the BG stuff its only a small can. I never use it. I will say I have had some Gran Cherokee V8 jeeps and a few Caravans that had BAD morning sickness due to hard seals. In COLD weather took 15 minutes to get the trans to move the vehicle. It was a gamble to use the BG products and the machine. It helped and improved every one I can remember. Not a fix by a long shot but made them better for a while. I was impressed. The other can is a seal conditioner. But I never just had a unit that worked ok just up and fail shortly after swapping old fliud for new. It is the ONLY trans service I have had customers comment that it MADE a differance in shift quality and torque converter lock up. I NEVER got that from a drop the pan/filter and top off fliud. They ALL CALL IT A FLUSH and when I ask what machine a shop has so far its always been a bladder, hook to line and start the vehicle and its just old fliud out,new fliud in. Tire store near me put my Amsoil in for $35. 00 and I stood back there while the guy did it. Dealer near me whom I like wanted $70 bucks. Another shop I asked wanted $100. All used a BG machine. Every TECH I have ever worked with used it on personal vehicles with no hesitation. It was a blessing for mail carrier vehicles. Some of them the fliud turned black as midnight in AW4 automatics and would stink bad. Dropping the pan change did NOTHING for fliud condition in them. Even had a few accuse us of NOT doing a trans service on them until I showed them the pan HAD been off. Not with a fliud exchange. They'd pull that dipstick and smile.
