Weak Power Steering

I put one in and put almost 10k miles on it immediately towing. Worked great for what I intended, got rid of any hint of shuttle/hang shift, and will even handle Smarty Wild and shift perfectly. In lieu of a total VB it is a definite improvement.

The cons; it really underlines the lack of a decent TC, we used the spring in the kit for the throttle pressure and should not have on the diesel application per discussions with Transgo. It tends to drive the shift points to 3k rpm's or better under WOT. Not really a problem but I would rather it shifted around 2800 or lower.

The real gotcha has to do with some stock pieces in the trans that tend to show up after running it for a while. The direct clutch sealing rings do not handle added pressure well and wear extremely fast. After 10k with the shift kit and 100k total, direct clutch engagement got to be problematic. I didn't loose it completely but it was very hard to get shifted in and took some playing with the throttle to work right. The culprit is either the sealing rings on the pump hub or the direct clutch piston seal over extending and cutting it. Both may be an issue when you run additional pressure.

Ah well, now the trans is out and is getting a good TC, billet input, new seals, and more clutches. The shift kit does come with the newer better sealing rings but there is nothing to say it is a really good idea to put them in.

Hope this helps. :)

I put one of these kits in my '06. I put in a Goerend Triple Disk TC and upgrade 2nd gear band strut and lever at the same time. I did keep the stock spring for the throttle pressure per Dave G's recommendation. At this point, I think it works GREAT - but in reality I have only put a few thousand miles on it.

I am running a SMARTY, but I still run the Moderate TQ MGMT (Standard Smarty).
