well had to have the 02 cummins towed home tonight... ... . driving along fine let off the gas to go around a turn ... . got back on it and the truck did not move... got it up to about 3000 rpms and it did 10mph

pulled over in a driveway pull the dipstick and steam pored out of the tube ... ... . the fluid is brownish red and smells burnt.

what would you guys look for ... ... ... a new one ?

If your going to keep the truck, go after market rebuild. That will allow more power upgrades later. If looking for quick/cheap fix, look for one at a wreaker and an after market VB/torqe converter.

One will run about 4k the other about 2k.

if i wasent going to keep it i would have sent it to the local butcher... ... i mean trans shop for a band-aid i am going to look into something after market

who would you all look at for after market?

what things should i be looking for?

whats the price range?

i do plan to use this truck as a daily driver/ tow rig, i also plan alot more up grades ..... the transmission was holding me back but now that i have got to get a new one... .....

:) Tim-You can research the archives for info on the aftermarket auto trans upgrades. I would recomend a rebuilder but I would get kicked off this forum for starting a transmission war. There are several who could fullfill your needs. Just not allowed to recomend one. :( See my sig. to see what I have. Over 100K and still good as new.

Take your pick Diesel Transmission Tech, ATS or Gorend (spelled wrong). I would choose which ever one has a installer close to you.

I chose DTT, but at the time they where one of two options, then again I would choose them now too.
