Im a moron, I posted this in the 2nd gen no trans/engine discussion page. No wonder I got not replies!!!!

I also posted this in the 911 section. Just thought I may get more "traffic" here.

we are trying to drain all the fluid out of my grandpas 2002 CTD. We disconnected the line at the cooler as per a TDR article. we started teh truck in neutral and only got about 5 quarts of fluid, when the article says we should have gotten between 10 and 12 quarts of fluid. we are changing to amsoil synthetic. is there any special instructions we missed?

also, The mag hytek pan has an aluminum spacer that lowers the filter/pickup. the aluminum spacer has no seal between itself and the trans. should there be one? can we use the rubber seal off the old trans filter/pickup?

thanks in advance!!!

I think you can get more to drain if you loosen the valve body and let it drain for a couple of hours.

Thanks Tom. We tried that already, and the most atf we can get from the trans is 5. 5 quarts. Since we are converting to synthetic, we would like to get as much of the old stuff out as possible. We have even tried running it in neutral with the pan off, but nothing. the trans was full when we started this whole mess.

Should we expect 10-12 quarts like the TDR mag said?

Seems like there should have been more than that in the pan - at least it seem like more when I spilled it all over myself when I changed mine. I think there is about 22 qts total and half is in the torque converter. Give Bill Kondolay a call at DTT, he will give you good advice - toll free 1 866 504 4002 ( Pacific coast time )
