ford escort
I just got rid of a '95 Escort at 75,000 miles with the 1. 9 engine. The car ran perfect for 40,000 miles, then the timing belt slipped/broke, $350 not covered under warranty and 10,000 miles before the belt was supposed to be replaced under routine maintenance. At 60,000 miles the head gasket gave up along with the intake and exhaust gaskets, water pump, thermo, and oil pan gasket. $1150, also not covered under the extended warranty. Six weeks ago the engine swallowed a valve, repair bill at Ford $4300. The car was worth about the same as the repair bill so I never went back for it except to get my license plates, personal stuff, and the bike rack on the roof. All this for an economy car. I try to buy American but when Ford takes care of their customers the way I was, so long.
I now drive an '03 Jetta under warranty for a long time incl. oil changes, etc. at no cost.
