I am getting ready to upgrade my trans. What kind of lock-up controller is preferable? I understand some are programmable and some aren't. Some increase the trans pressure and some don't. I also need to install an exhaust brake. I think I prefer a vacuum operated one - experiences anyone? I'd prefer not having to chop up my Magnaflow downpipe, and just replace the turbo elbow with the exhaust brake. Which ones is this possible with? Any of them show advantages in flow, reliability, affecting EGTs, retarding performance? If I have to upgrade the turbo for EGT control in the future, will the exhaust brakes that bolt onto the stock turbo still bolt onto a larger turbo like a HX 35/40 hybrid or similiar type? Thanks!

I would also check out the ATS controller. I got one about a year after I got my Stage IV upgrade, and it works great. I can lock up my T. C. in 2nd gear at about 18 mph, and I use it like that with the exhaust brake on for descending steep mountain roads at lower speeds. You'll need either the ATS Valve Body or something similar to make the TC lock up in 2nd gear, and you'll also need the controller. I think the newer ATS controller is programmable, although I have the older style which is just a dial-knob. But even with the dial knob it works great.

Also, I just noticed you were in Orange County, Bellflower Transmission has been an ATS rebuilder for years, and Larry or Bob are the resident transmission-guru's to talk to there. They are very good.

In my opinion, i would remove the BD pressure locwhen you get your new trans.

Also nver lock the converter clutch up under 20-25 mph or in low gear, as

i have experienced several case explosions in hi-horsepower drag race

aplications.

I think you would be well off with any 200 dollar or so electric torque

locker on the market, as they all are very similiar, good luck
