Guys,
I have a 2013 3500 Aisin equipped with 90K on the clock. Loaded with a 4K camper and pulling a 13K trailer in the mountains, on a up shift from 3 to 4 or 4 to 5 shift , I hear a distinct chirp or squeak as the shift is made.
Fluid does not smell burned and has about 15K miles on since last change. Any ideas what on is going on with this unit?
Tks in advance, dg

The serpentine belts don't seem to slip anymore, but could it be the belt chirp like the old 12 and 24 valve engines used to make on shut down? If the shift is firm/hard when the RPM drops fast it could be the belt overrunning the accessory drives. Just a thought.

I have read multiple reports of the Aisin chirping on some upshifts. From what I gather it’s not normal, but also not an issue.

It could be possible that a belt chirp is occurring. IF your alternator uses a decoupler pulley (which I think it does), then the pulley may have failed. My experience has been that when a decoupler pulley fails, it usually locks up - thus behaving like a solid pulley, which COULD cause belt chirp during a firm transmission upshift. If the decoupler pulley is working properly, then there would be no belt chirp.

The photo below shows what an alternator decoupler pulley may look like for a 2013 Ram.

John, I didnt even know of such a thing as a decoupler!! it looks ok but ---? Hopefully that's it cause the noise is on the pass side. As long as things dont escalate !

bought the truck from original owner @ 24K miles. Nothing has been updated electronic wise since I've owned it.
