trans not going back to 1st

my truck is in the shop it is a 04. 5 with a auto it stoped shifting back to 1st when i stop at a light to make it go in 1st i have to kill it then restart it. it will go in 2nd but slow any hints what is going on

stock trans or maddified? mine will give 2nd gear starts after towing heavy, but my trannys was modded almost 6 yrs ago

Check for codes, when it goes in limp mode it will not go in first

You never answered Bob. Is it a stock transmission or modified?

what is limp mode

When the ECM gets a out of spec signal from the trans it will cause the trans relay to open and not send any voltage to the shift solenoids in the valve body

there for 2nd gear starts. I had it happen to me when I put in a lock up switch in it throws a code I don't remember the number I cleared the code and all was good.

On my 98 I had to replace the governor pressure solenoid and sensor. This has been the cause of 2nd gear starts for many others. The parts cost about $200 at the dealer and are easy to replace after you drop the transmisson pan. They just bolt onto the valve body.
