Automatic Transmission Shift Points - Rough

Does a chip add extra oil pressure?

It seems possible that I have a transmission oil leak from the shifter on my NV5600. The dealership may have removed the shifter recently to get better access to the AC (dash removal) that was part of the blend door/recirc repairs last month. Assuming they did remove the shifter and now I have a leak, I am considering taking it back to the dealership for repair...

... UNLESS...

... it is an easy fix and does not require a gasket or something I don't have. Is it reasonable to remove the little semblance of a console (ST trim) and gain access to the shifter?? Could I then take the shifter off, clean, and reassemble with sealer?? If this is a simple job, I'd rather do it myself (and do it right) than take it back to the dealer and wait.

I've always had good service from the Franklin, TN dealership, but the 305/555 engines don't need much time in the service department...

Haven't been into that yr , but I would try to see where the leak is coming from [ clean , drive and look for fresh leak ] then get that gasket/seal ,
be careful of sealers / silly cone , they can cause more problems , gaskets & seal are the way to go ,

Les-

It is an easy job. When you get the shifter boot off, you will know instantly if that is where your leak is coming from. If you do a search on this topic, you will find that most folks are finding success cleaning the mating surfaces well and reassembling with their favorite gasket sealer. I used an automotive grade RTV on mine with no problems.

While the above post about using a gasket is technically correct, it does not seem that most folks are requiring that for a solution, and as far as I know, you will have to make your own gasket out of gasket stock.

Hope this helps, please let us know what you find and how it turns out.

Problem Solved

I found three of the four screws to be loose. They are supposed to be torqued to just 7-9 ft-lb and MAYBE  they had worked loose over 80K miles. Whatever!

I'm topping off the fluid and reinstalling everything to factory specs. I am using a little dab of medium strength loctite on each screw, just to make sure they don't vibrate loose.

As you said, the problem was obvious once I removed the shifter boot. I wish everything was this easy to fix.

THANKS!

Thanks for the kind words Les. As much as I've gotten from the TDR, it is good to be able to give a little back every once in a while. :)
