Airaid Filters, Not K&N, AFE

Scheids service is great

Didn't see anyone reply to whether or not this has a port for a temp gauge in the pan.

Also, is there any advantage over not using the janetty $29 splice solution vice $100 for the new line?

I see that most of the sites listed for B&M list "as much as 4 quarts more oil". I'm wondering for my 99 if it really would increase the oil capacity.

Allready using the the dipstick sender but would like to switch over to the line way but I'd like to keep it as cost effective as possible that's why this post about B&M and the janetty line tap is intriguing me.

Some folks don't like the idea of a couple more potential places to leak with the Janetty kit. If you take your time and install it right I see no problem.

I used the Janetty kit, did it right and it works great, no leaks! Also, the B&M oil pan is BIG, it is solid and very heavy duty. Just letting you know I had good luck with both.

I fixed my sender to the hot output line right by the exit from the transmission by cleaning the pipe with wire wool, covering the sender and pipe thickly in heat sink grease, strapping the sender to the pipe with two plastic ties, and then wrapping the whole lot in self-amalgamating tape. The heat sink grease comes in a small tube from Radio Shack. Its purpose is to ensure efficient heat transfer between two adjacent materials, and is used between semi-conductors and their heat sinks in computers, as well as many other situations. The self-amalgamating tape forms a water resistant covering. I use it at sea for covering things like rigging screws. I get very fast response to temperature changes, with no extra risk of leaks (I'm a very bad plumber!), and a total cost of about $8 for the tape and grease. I've driven 10k miles with it, and it hasn't moved. Just another option, but it suits me. Nick.

Good tip Nick, never heard of that one. Your method may read a little low but it's all relative. Still a heck of a lot better than pan temps.

For members with '94&'95 RH trannies the middle test port on the passenger side registers the same temp as the cooler output line.

Ok guys, I'm REALLY confused. I just called the B&M tech line and spoke with a guy about the depth of the pan. I was asking about whether theirs was similiar to the mag-hytec in that it didn't extend below the cross memeber.

When I told the guy I had a Dodge, and diesel he said theirs wouldn't fit that application and that even if it did it wouldn't have any more capacity than the OEM pan???????????????????

Here it is...

This is the panb, I guess the tech guy is clueless!! This is the one on my truck, its a very well made, HEAVY pan and does not extend below the crossmember. I have a 2000 3500 4x4.

Part number 10280* Chrysler TF-A-727 & 518 (adds up to 4 qt. )

Just got my B&M pan and I can say it is very heavy and stout. I has ridges on the inside for reinforcement and a drain plug with magnetic tip (nice).

The only problem is that when I measured it against the stock pan on my truck it's just slightly deeper, maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch deeper (if that). Not sure I'f I'm going to keep it or send it back to Jegs because extra capacity one of the things I really wanted. Still don't want to spend around $300 for the mag-hytech though.

Also, did you guys have to use one of the filter extensions (or could you even?) cause I don't really see a need for it on this 47RE.

When I put a deep pan on my '85 440 (can you say engine swap?) gasser I called Summit and asked for a deep B&M pan without giving the salesman the part number. He looked up what I was asking for then asked if I wanted the one with two more quarts capacity (as compared to a stock shallow 727 pan) or the one with four extra quarts capacity. I took the one with four and it is approx the same as the Mag-hytec single deep pan, I removed one of these from a members truck to install a double deep so I've seen all 3 pans in the same place at the same time.

I went out and re-measured it. It is probably . 5 inch or so deeper than the stocker. The lip on this one is 3/8 inch so that's 3/8 deeper than stock right there plus a little bit more deeper.

I bought it from Jegs. The following is the description:

Item# = 130-10280

Description = B&M Transmission Pans

Chrysler TF A-727 & 518, Adds up to 4-Quarts

Qty/Price = 1 at $136. 99 = $136. 99

The part # seems to be the same as the one you posted. Unless I had a bigger stock pan than you I think I have the same item.

Also, I guess I will use the 3/8 filter extension because the other extention is like 1 1/8 in.

One more thing and I'll let this thread go: did you guys use one of the extentions that came with the pan? Since the B&M isn't too much bigger than the stocker I'm still wondering if there'd be too much clearance between the bottom of the pan or in reverse, not enough clearance to use one of the extentions.

Thanks again guys, I appreciate the thoughts/info.

B&M Depth

I just installed one this past weekend. The B&M deep pan I put on was about a half inch deeper than the OEM pan. However it had ridges on the inside. I did not use either extension as the stock filter pickup was deeper than the 3/8 extension and the 1 1/4 extension would not work. I found the added capacity was only 2 quarts  I thought it was supposed to be 4 quarts. Anyway, I was up in Oregon visiting the folks when the change took place. Glad I did the change as we got stuck going up the Grapevine due to a fire and the transmission heated up to 250 in the stop and go traffic, heat. If I had to do it again, I'd spend the $ on the MagHyTec double deep pan and be done with it.

My . 02 worth.

I returned mine when I found out I could only get 1 more qt or so in the pan. Turns out there tech guy was right about it not really adding any capacity to the trucks. Anyway I ended up getting the mag-hytec pan and I really like it (except for the price).
