So how do I identify my trans (for band adjustment)? I have a 94 4wd auto. Also I would like to put a gauge sensor in my trans pan so I figured it's a good time to change fluid, should I change all of it or just what's in the pan? And how do I get all the fluid out? What's good fluid to run?

It is a 47RH and where are you going to put the temperature sensor?

As far as fluid change, if the fluid is clean and not discolored there is no problem with just replacing what you drained out with new fluid and filter.

If you want to do a complete change, there are shops that will flush them out for you or you can do it yourself. After you re-install the pan, disconnect the return line at the transmission, run a clear tube from the line to a 5 gallon bucket.

Start the engine and engage the transmission. When bubbles begin to show in the tube shut it down. That should have removed most of the old oil.

I'm putting the sensor in the pan. I don't know what the previous owner had for transmission fluid or when it was changed. So what fluid should I run? Dextron, atf3,4... ?
