A good friend of mine just cooked the transmission in his 95 Chevy Silverado and I volunteered to help... Now I am wondering what to expect
We are debating removing the transmission and taking it to a shop for service or attempt to do it all on our own.
If we were to install a typical master rebuild kit our selves what special tools would we need? Would it be easy for us to screw something up?
The truck runs a TBI 305 and is rated stock 175hp
Anyway we hear the stock internals are good for about 300hp (and we plan on testing that!
) and we want to add some BOMBS to bring that out...
So my question is... Would things like, Kevlar-lined race bands, Red Alto race
frictions, and Kolene steels be to our advantage for durability and reliability?? Or are the "standard" "premium" materials found in less costly kits be all we will need?
I am sure I will have more questions, but these are all I can think of for now.
Thanks in advance, CJ
