Anyone Hungry?

anyone see this fight`

A good friend of mine just cooked the transmission in his 95 Chevy Silverado and I volunteered to help... Now I am wondering what to expect

We are debating removing the transmission and taking it to a shop for service or attempt to do it all on our own.

If we were to install a typical master rebuild kit our selves what special tools would we need? Would it be easy for us to screw something up?

The truck runs a TBI 305 and is rated stock 175hp  Anyway we hear the stock internals are good for about 300hp (and we plan on testing that! ;) ) and we want to add some BOMBS to bring that out...

So my question is... Would things like, Kevlar-lined race bands, Red Alto race

frictions, and Kolene steels be to our advantage for durability and reliability?? Or are the "standard" "premium" materials found in less costly kits be all we will need?

I am sure I will have more questions, but these are all I can think of for now.

Thanks in advance, CJ

Don't make the same mistake I did trying to do it myself. It was a nightmare even doing by a book. All said and done the transmission didn't work right afterwards. The next time I took one of these trannys in to get rebuilt was in a 95 Z-71 and it cost 1500. 00 and I never had another problem in the next 75,000 miles that I owned it. I just took my Tahoe in last month for a transmission rebuild that lost reverse and it cost 885. 00 and so far so good. The shop also said they would not warrantee the rebuild if I did the R&R on it to save money. I hope this helps you make the "right" decision.

CSnyder, In what ways did ithe transmission not work right?

For $2,000 he can have a built B&M trans sitting at the door step... Don't like the sounds of a $1500 rebuild.
