Trans shudder at fixed RPM

The new to me 2016 2500 4WD, Auto, 3.43 ratio with 23k miles, has a shudder (seems to be engine speed) at about 1200 rpm when shifting to 3rd (at 30mph) and again to 4th and then to 5th. This is repeatable and is very narrow range, so next week probably to the local dealer. Anyone seen this shudder? I hope it can be re flashed to take care of it.

It's a "learning" transmission. It may be "remembering" how it was previously used. If you are driving it differently than the previous owner, it may change to your driving style and use (towing or not)????

I'd bet money on it being a rear driveline angle induced vibration or shudder. These newer transmission's don't shudder in my experience.

JR I still have the 99 gen 2 and runs fine but the front fenders are very full of rust but can be replaced if one puts both outer and inner fenders on both sides. I put new RV 275 injectors on it less than 2 years ago and new BlueChips X VP 44 5 years ago, it has an on frame fuel pump and filter. Has a gooseneck hitch and all wiring in place and it is still hooked up to my 33 ft bumper pull enclosed snowmachine toy hauler since hunting season Nov 1 and has gone to the mountains at least once a week since Thanksgiving and some times twice or three times a week. Runs strong and I will probably keep it for a while, but if someone wants it and we can find a fair price for both, I will part with it with 232k miles and good tires. I am headed right now to pick up my "new to me 2016" with 23 k miles on it.

Today, I have further investigated the Shudder I described in starting this thread and it is not related to Driveline RPM! It is related to engine rpm and is in every gear at 1200 rpm this is a 68 transmission

There are times with the proper pedal pressure that the engine sounds like it's timing is advancing and will give a bit of a shudder.

No there is no need for a fuel pressure gauge. The fuel pump is no longer engine mounted, it's in the tank and a much more reliable and robust system.

Could have sworn there are 2 pumps. One to lift out of the tank and another one to maintain fuel presssure at the fuel rail?

That's true Newsa, great point. I believe his question was geared towards the lift pump and how the VP44 equipped trucks with lift pumps needed a fuel pressure gauges due to the unreliability of the block mounted lift pumps.

Not for me, I want gauges for everything. In tank pumps go bad also.

this is my concern also and I was wondering what the fuel pressure in the tank to engine/rail fuel pump is and I assume that one can get to that point to connect or tee on to put a pressure sending unit or tap for mechanical guage.

I picked my truck up at the dealer this afternoon and talked with the Service Writer and was told that the mechanic had driven the truck and then came back and flashed the PCM and ECM and thought there was a slight improvement and that he took a 17 and 19 both out and drove them and said that they both did the same thing---- so I am going out next week and ask to go for a ride/drive with this mechanic in all 3 of these trucks, mine included because I have driven a 16 and a 17 that neither one had this shudder that I have described that my truck has.

Going for a ride with the mechanic is a great idea. Some problems are hard to reproduce unless you do it just right. You know how to make it happen and can show them.
