Looked at a 01 2500 on a dealer lot today. Needless to say he wants too much but if all else were ok I might talk with them. My question is how bad is it if you put it in D it starts out in 2nd. If manually shifted 1st to 2nd does fine. Dealer says he doesn't feel it. Other gears seem to lock up as expected. Would this be real bad or possibly a sensor? I have always run the stick shifts.

Thanks

I had to replace the governor pressure sensor and gov. pressure regulator on my stock transmission. It had been starting in second also. Fixed it. Total of ~$200 for the 2 parts.

Just came upon the same problem with my transmission. Got codes 1757 and 1762, if I remember correctly and dealer confirmed that is the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. Waiting for transmission temperature gauge to do everything at once this coming weekend. I didn't realize the first time I towed my trailer that I was starting in 2nd - it's only a little 24' fifth wheel.
