A friend at work has a stock '99 2500 automatic with 70K miles, the truck is stock and used for plowing snow, towing stuff and working around the property. Recently the transmissions has started to slip. There are no good transmissions shops around here that I am aware of, I suggested there might be someplace that could just send him a built transmission and he could have it put in locally. He could get a factory rebuilt one from the dealer but it would probably be no better than stock and it would cost. Chances are the truck will stay stock so he is basically looking for a good solid transmission nothing fancy. Any suggestions?

These guys are always on ebay advertiseing 47Re rebuilt for $895

Here is an example.

Phoenix Remanufactured transmissions.

Never done any business with them. Might give them a call. See what brand clutches and bands they use. If they seem competent.

But first change the transmission fluid and filters and adjust the front and rear bands.

Nothing to lose, just get some Valvoline max life Mercon/dexron. If there is any shudder, try one cup of red lubeguard. Then two if necessary.
