Hey guys, can anyone help me with this problem??? i have a 1994 dually 5. 9L with auto trans, every once in a while it seems like the transmission is slipping. the transmission has just been rebuilt. this problem only happens every once in a while. i've been to several transmission shops and the dealer they say its possibly a sensor on the motor but none know where to start until it quits working. any ideas????? thanks in advance you guys are great!!!!!!!all sensors were replaced in the trans and the torque convert was replaced.

I doubt that a sensor would be doing this. You have a 47RH (Rear wheel drive, Hydraulic controlled) transmission instead of the later 47RE (Rear wheel drive, Electronic controlled). The only electronic controls in the 47RH are the OD solenoid and the TCC (Torque Convertor Clutch) lockup solenoid. The TCC lockup solenoid is controlled by the CPM based on input from the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). If there is a problem with the TPS you will have crazy symptoms with TCC lock and unlock. Have you had the line pressure checked? That might yield a clue. Has anyone tried adjusting the kick down cable to see if that affects the symptoms? What I suspect is happening is that the governor is sticking once in a while. This thing is a set of brass weights that spins on the output shaft. Big PITA to get to and service. It has a small filter screen in the governor assembly that can get plugged up and screw up the works. It may have picked up some left over trash from the rebuild.

It could be your throttle position sensor(TPS)is bad or dirty. What's happening is your transmission is getting a signal from the TPS that you just floored it,say to pass, the transmission starts to downshift then gets the signal that it isn't floored and shifts back. This whole process takes 1-2 seconds. I've had good luck soaking mine down with aerosol electronic cleaner, other folks have had to replace them here's a little more infoSince you're working in that area check the end of your throttle cable to see if it is fraying,a common problem.
